Duties
- Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and personal hygiene to ensure their comfort and dignity.
- Monitor patient health by observing vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and temperature; report any concerns promptly to healthcare professionals.
- Support reminding clients that they need to take their medication.
- Prepare nutritious meals tailored to dietary needs and assist with meal planning and cooking to promote healthy living.
- Facilitate patient transfer methods using equipment like Hoyer lifts or manual handling techniques to ensure safe mobility.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment through regular cleaning duties, laundry assistance, and organization of living spaces.
- Document care activities accurately in client records, including progress notes and updates on health status or behavioral changes.
- Engage in patient observation to detect early signs of health issues or behavioral changes related to conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease or dementia.
- Support clients with neurodevelopmental disorders or developmental disabilities by implementing personalized care plans aligned with their needs.
Requirements
- Proven experience working with individuals with disabilities, neurodevelopmental disorders, or in senior care settings such as assisted living or nursing homes.
- Knowledge of patient monitoring techniques including vital signs measurement and dementia or Alzheimer’s care strategies.
- Ability to perform manual handling tasks safely using appropriate equipment like Hoyer lifts; capable of heavy lifting when necessary.
- Certification in CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and First Aid is required; additional certifications in hospice care or home health are a plus.
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations ensuring confidentiality of patient information at all times.
- Strong communication skills for effective client interaction and collaboration with healthcare teams.
- Experience working with individuals with autism or intellectual disabilities supporting their unique needs through tailored approaches.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple responsibilities in a home setting with flexibility and enthusiasm.
