Job Description
FST Technical Services is one of the leading high-tech manufacturing/facilities QAQC and Cx firms in the country. We partner with clients for quality assurance in the design, construction, and post-acceptance phases of building projects. We ensure that equipment in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and associated systems are designed, installed, and functionally tested to meet the clients’ requirements and design intent.
We are seeking a Mechanical Commissioning Field Engineer / Project Engineer with 2 years of experience supporting industrial and commercial building systems. This role will support field inspections, commissioning activities, equipment verification, and functional testing on complex construction projects including semiconductor, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, commercial, and mission critical facilities.
Candidates may come from either a traditional engineering background or a skilled trades/mechanical systems background with relevant field experience.
Responsibilities
Perform field inspections of mechanical and HVAC systems during construction and commissioning phases
Support commissioning and start-up activities for mechanical building systems
Verify installations comply with project drawings, specifications, codes, and quality standards
Assist with functional performance testing of HVAC and mechanical equipment
Coordinate with contractors, owners, engineers, and commissioning teams to resolve field issues
Document deficiencies, observations, and corrective actions
Participate in equipment start-up, system turnover, and commissioning activities
Attend project meetings and provide field updates and reporting
Review construction documents, submittals, and installation drawings
Support building automation system (BAS/BMS) point-to-point verification and operational testing
Maintain project documentation including reports, checklists, and commissioning records
Follow all project safety requirements and company safety policies
Systems & Equipment Experience Preferred
Air handling units (AHUs)
Chillers and cooling systems
Boilers and hydronic systems
Pumps, motors, and VFDs
HVAC ductwork and piping systems
Building Automation Systems (BAS/BMS)
Exhaust and ventilation systems
Industrial mechanical systems
Cleanroom HVAC systems (preferred)
Qualifications
2 years of experience in commissioning, field engineering, mechanical inspection, HVAC systems, building automation, or industrial construction
Background in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, HVAC Technology, Building Systems, or related trades experience
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and P&IDs
Basic understanding of HVAC controls and building automation systems
Knowledge of mechanical installation practices and field coordination
Strong communication and documentation skills
Ability to work in active construction and industrial environments
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard construction software platforms
Ability to travel to project sites as required
Preferred Qualifications
OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
Experience on pharmaceutical, semiconductor, manufacturing, or mission critical projects
Exposure to commissioning processes and functional testing
Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, BIM 360, or similar software
TAB, commissioning, or controls experience is a plus
Military mechanical or technical experience considered
Physical Requirements
Ability to walk active construction sites daily
Ability to climb ladders and access mechanical spaces
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying site conditions
Salary Range: $75,000 – $105,000 depending on experience
