Job Description

This position facilitates the interactive process and makes routine accommodation determinations under the guidance of the ADA/504 Coordinator, while escalating complex or high-risk matters as appropriate. The Accommodation Specialist provides coordination, case management, and determination support for employee accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and applicable University policies and may serve as a Deputy ADA/504 Coordinator, supporting continuity of operations and compliance oversight.

This position is not eligible for new visa sponsorship at this time. Candidates who already hold valid U.S. work authorization may be considered

Key Responsibilities

  • Serves as a primary point of contact for employee accommodation requests
  • Conducts intake meetings and facilitates the interactive process
  • Reviews medical documentation and job requirements to assess accommodation needs
  • Makes routine accommodation determinations in alignment with established guidelines and under the direction of the ADA/504 Coordinator
  • Drafts and issues accommodation letters and related documentation
  • Escalates complex, high-risk, or novel accommodation requests to the ADA/504 Coordinator
  • Coordinates implementation of accommodations with campus partners (HR, Disability Services, IT, Facilities)
  • Monitors accommodations and adjusts as needed to ensure effectiveness
  • Maintains accurate and confidential case records
  • Tracks trends, timelines, and outcomes related to accommodations
  • Provides guidance to employees and supervisors regarding the accommodation process
  • Assists in developing training and educational materials
  • Supports compliance with related laws, including coordination with the Family and Medical Leave Act
  • Reviews position descriptions and collaborates with managers, HR, and other departments to support ADA-compliant job descriptions, including essential functions, working conditions, and physical requirements
  • May serve as Deputy ADA/504 Coordinator, including supporting continuity of operations, assisting with compliance oversight, stepping in during ADA/504 Coordinator absence as appropriate
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Rehabilitation Counseling, or related field (In lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree, a minimum six years combined education, training, and experience may be considered.)
  • At least one (1) year of experience with workplace accommodations, including the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and leave processes such as the Family and Medical Leave Act
  • At least one (1) year of experience in a professional setting that includes communication, organization, and coordination of tasks handling confidential or sensitive information exercising independent judgment or decision-making
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Ability to manage multiple cases and meet deadlines
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
    • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions within established guidelines
    • Ability to appropriately escalate complex or high-risk matters
    • Ability to work professionally with employees, supervisors, and campus partners
    • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to navigate complex situations
    • Ability to learn and apply policies, procedures, and legal requirements
    • Ability to communicate clearly, follow through, and manage competing priorities
    • Ability to learn and use case management systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience applying Title I of the ADA Amendments Act and Section 504 regulations
  • Experience facilitating the interactive process and coordinating reasonable accommodations
  • Experience working in higher education or a public sector environment

Additional Information

Salary will be between $52,000-$55,000 per year, commensurate with education and experience.
