Job Description
The Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders at Idaho State University is seeking an outstanding faculty member to join a dynamic, cohesive, and student-centered Audiology Program. To find the best fit for the program, this position is open track (Tenure Track or Clinical). A successful candidate would have the capacity and commitment to contribute to varying degrees across a broad array of areas including classroom instruction, student supervision and clinical instruction, and engagement in scholarly and service activities.
This position is not eligible for new visa sponsorship at this time. Candidates who already hold valid U.S. work authorization may be considered.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Track:
- Develop and deliver undergraduate and graduate-level courses in audiology, covering key topics such as audiological assessment, hearing disorders, auditory rehabilitation, and hearing aid technology.
- Supervise and mentor graduate audiology students in clinical settings, guiding them in assessing, diagnosing, and treating hearing and balance disorders.
- Participate in department, college, and university committees, contributing to governance and decision-making processes.
- Participate in creative and scholarly activities, including student mentoring of capstone projects.
- Develop and deliver undergraduate and graduate-level courses in audiology, covering key topics such as audiological assessment, hearing disorders, auditory rehabilitation, and hearing aid technology.
- Participate in clinical teaching/clinical supervision and/or direct services to patients in the ISU Audiology Clinic.
- Engage in scholarly activities that contribute to the field of audiology, such as research, publications, presentations, and grant writing.
- Collaborate with colleagues on research projects and participate in professional conferences to disseminate findings.
- Mentor graduate students in their research endeavors/capstone projects, providing guidance on project development, data analysis, and dissemination of results.
- Provide service to the department, university, and profession.
Minimum Qualifications
- Earned master's degree (e.g., MS, MA) and/or doctoral degree in Audiology (e.g., AuD, PhD).
- Have a minimum of one (post-graduation) of clinical audiology experience.
- Capacity and commitment to contribute to clinical teaching/clinical supervision.
- Excellent interpersonal and professional skills and potential for excellence in didactic and clinical instruction.
- Evidence of strong collaboration and interpersonal skills.
- Be eligible for and obtain the American Speech/Language Hearing Association (ASHA) Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A); the successful candidate will need to be in the process of obtaining or have obtained the ASHA CCC-A at the time of hire.
- Be eligible for and obtain Idaho audiology licensure; the successful candidate will need to be in the process of obtaining or have obtained an Idaho audiology license at the time of hire.
Tenure Track:
- Earned PhD in in Audiology, Speech and Hearing Sciences or research doctoral degree in a related field.
- Candidate near completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered, but completion of the degree will be required to maintain employment.
- Capacity and commitment to contribute to clinical teaching/clinical supervision.
- Excellent interpersonal and professional skills and potential for excellence in didactic and clinical instruction.
- Evidence of strong collaboration and interpersonal skills.
- Be eligible for and obtain the American Speech/Language Hearing Association (ASHA) Certificate of Clinical Competence in. Audiology (CCC-A); the successful candidate will need to be in the process of obtaining or have obtained the ASHA CCC-A at the time of hire.
- Be eligible for and obtain Idaho audiology licensure; the successful candidate will need to be in the process of obtaining or have obtained an Idaho audiology license at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching at the university level.
- Experience supervising and instructing graduate students in a clinical environment.
- Three years of hearing-aid experience with multiple product lines and manufacturers.
- Demonstrated success in clinical and classroom teaching and research/ scholarly activities.
- Interest in and/or experience in business administration and/or private practice clinical activities.
- Other areas of preferred experience/interest include implantable devices (especially with cochlear implants), electrophysiological evaluation, and vestibular assessment and management.
- Several years of university experience with a strong record of clinical instruction and involvement in creative and scholarly activities would be required for the Associate Professor rank.
Tenure Track:
- Experience teaching at the university level.
- Experience supervising and instructing graduate students in a clinical environment.
- Experiences with and/or capacity to participate in providing hearing aid services.
- Demonstrated success in grant writing and research (a variety of specialty areas will be considered).
- Other areas of preferred experience/interest include experience with or a desire to learn implantable devices (especially cochlear implants), electrophysiological evaluation, and vestibular assessment and management.
- Several years of university experience (e.g., full time or adjunct) with a strong record of scholarship and grant writing would be required for the Associate Professor rank.
Additional Information

Salary will be between $85,000 and $90,000 per year, commensurate with education and experience.
