Job Description

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Electro-Mechanical Technician to work on our Manufacturing Support team. Our team works a 4x10 schedule located out of our MFC facility in Idaho Falls, Idaho with every Friday off.

At Idaho National Laboratory, you'll fabricate, assemble, weld, and test systems ranging from simple components to highly complex electro-mechanical devices, working directly from drawings, schematics, and work specifications. You'll set up and operate test equipment, analyze performance data, troubleshoot installed systems, and interface with engineers and researchers to deliver practical solutions to technical challenges while maintaining compliance with safety and work control requirements.

Essential Job Functions And Responsibilities

  • Work with drawings, schematics, and work specifications to produce successful outcomes utilizing modern techniques and tools of the trade.
  • Set up and operate test equipment to evaluate the performance of prototypical devices, analyze test data, and recommend changes or modifications to improve performance. Install, troubleshoot, and maintain new equipment.
  • Perform fabrication, machining, welding, brazing, assembly, troubleshooting, and testing of simple to very complex systems.
  • Compile and complete documentation of development and/or test processes.
  • Interface directly with engineering, designers, and scientific researchers to help resolve technical issues while providing imaginative and practical solutions to technical problems, while maintaining effective customer relationships.
  • Work to applicable work control documents to ensure that work is conducted safely under proper procedures and Integrated Safety Management System (ISMS) guidelines.
  • Fabricating thermocouples, wiring, programing various HVAC control units. May also assist with glove box maintenance.
  • Participate in work planning walkdowns and man-hour estimating.

Required

  • Level 3: High School diploma or equivalent and 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Level 4: High School diploma or equivalent and 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Work experience in electrical and I/C systems and fabrication.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, including wiring, circuits, and troubleshooting, as well as assembly of laboratory equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Familiarity with laboratory safety standards and procedures.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate with researchers and engineers.
  • This position requires a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

The Ideal Candidate Will Possess

  • Experience with glove box maintenance or interest in learning.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, climb ladders, work at heights, and in confined spaces. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires operation of job-related equipment and driving a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with people is required. Working Conditions

The work environment includes an office, buildings, and a field environment. The field environment may include exposure to adverse weather, working in high traffic areas, potential exposure to hazardous chemicals/waste, and noisy and/or loud equipment. Field work may include working with hazards involving the use of power tools and equipment which subjects the employee to mechanical and electrical hazards, moving vehicles, and heavy equipment. Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. Position requires irregular hours/overtime, shifts greater than 8 hours/day, and working alone.

Job Information

  • The pay range for this position is: Level 3 ($30.84 - $50.87) / Level 4 ($36.08 - $59.52). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.
  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
