DESCRIPTION


Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Fitter to work in our ATR Fitter and Welder department. Our team works a 4x10 schedule located out of our Advanced Test Reactor(ATR) facility with every Friday off.

You will perform maintenance and installation of piping, plumbing, and tubing systems and components in a nuclear facility. You report directly to the Foreman of the ATR Fitter and Welder department.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform maintenance, installation, and repair of piping, plumbing, and tubing systems and components in a nuclear facility.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain mechanical/piping and tubing systems and their components.
  • Operate shop equipment, test jigs, and use piping/tubing installation/repair/maintenance tools, as well as basic hand and power tools.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain high-pressure/hazardous material and waste systems.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain fire systems, fire hydrants, fire protection fluid systems, air dryers, and heat exchangers.
  • Couple and align mechanical/piping, tubing systems, and components.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on piping and tubing systems and components.
  • Read and interpret drawings and sketches proficiently.
  • Review scope with customers to define job requirements, offer recommendations for improving product outcomes, and provide status updates on jobs in progress to project managers and management. Resolve problems and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Participate in work planning walk-downs, material identification/recommendation, man-hour estimating, and material procurement as required.
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices by keeping work areas clean and organized.
  • Ensure Human Performance Improvement (HPI) tools and strong safety culture principles are embedded into daily activities.
  • Perform On-the-Job (OJT) instruction training for the qualification of other work disciplines.
  • Maintain all training and qualifications as per Individual Training Plan and Job Function Requirements.
  • Participate in all company safety programs, including but not limited to Integrated Safety Management System (ISMS), As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA), and Employee Safety Training (EST).
  • Work to drawings, schematics, and work specifications to produce successful outcomes using modern techniques and tools of the trade.
  • Obtain and maintain applicable qualifications.
  • Demonstrate mastery of knowledge base and skill associated with technical specialty.
  • Work extended periods of time in Radiological work areas, including the required PPE (Respiratory Protection, etc.).
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS


Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma, or equivalent, and 5 years of related work experience, or recognized trade apprenticeship and 2 years of related work experience, or 2-year vocational training program and 3 years of related work experience.
  • Must be capable of satisfactorily completing facility specific, continuous, and professional development training as required for duration of employment.
  • Must be capable of obtaining and maintaining medical qualifications so as not to limit satisfaction of the minimum requirements defined in this document for the duration of employment.
  • Experience with stainless steel and industrial fittings.
  • Valid state driver’s license..
  • Ability to obtain Radiological Worker Qualification within 45 days of starting work and maintain qualification for duration of employment.
  • Requires completion of the Plumber/Fitter Qualification and other training and qualification as directed by Management.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

Preferred Experience:

  • Journey Plumber's state license.

Job Information:

  • The pay for this position is $45.42/hr. (Rate can vary based upon individual work location, clearances, and qualifications. Rates are accurate for current posting and subject to change These are bargaining unit positions.)
  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, use hands to handle materials or manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms; operate a motor vehicle or job-related equipment; and climb ladders and/or work in confined spaces. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds without assistance. Sufficient visual acuity, speaking ability and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with the public is required.
