Position Description: ILAS is seeking a Director of Finance. This position reports to the Executive Director (ED) and is the firm’s strategic and programmatic leader in the following areas: finance, business planning and budgeting, grant invoicing and reporting, regulatory compliance, and vendor relationships. The Director of Finance is responsible for all financial matters and manages an annual budget of over $4M. This position also supervises the Operations & Accounting Specialist. The Director of Finance works with the entire leadership team to ensure ILAS’s long-term financial health in furtherance of our mission.
Duties:
- Oversee and manage day to day financial functions of the organization, including accounts payable, invoicing and accounts receivable, and payroll
- Oversee and manage contracted services
- Analyze and present quarterly financial reports in an accurate and timely manner
- Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and maintain internal controls and segregation of duties
- Coordinate all audit activities
- Prepare organizational tax returns (990)
- Implement a robust contracts management and financial management/reporting system; ensure that the contract billing and collection schedule is adhered to and that financial data and cash flow are steady and support operational requirements.
- Work with the Development Director to manage grant and donation revenue
- Update and implement all necessary business policies and accounting practices; update the finance department's policies, procedures, and manual
- Oversee the professional development/training program for the Operations and Accounting Specialist and ensure completion of annual performance evaluations
- Work with IT vendor to develop and implement new processes and systems that increase financial and operational efficiencies
- Present critical financial information to the Board of Directors and the Executive Director
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- 5 years of accounting experience
- Experience building an organizational budget
- Experience with projecting cashflows
- High level of attention to detail
- Interest in strategic planning and process improvement
- Experience reviewing vendor bids and proposed contracts
- Strong organization and time management skills
- Ability to work well both independently and in a team environment
- Demonstrated ability to design and implement best practices in financial and operations management
Preferred:
- CPA or MBA
- 2 years of fund accounting experience
- Experience communicating financial reports to laymen or a Board
- Experience supervising and managing staff
- Experience complying with the Office of Management & Budget Uniform Guidance
- Experience coordinating audits
- Experience working in a nonprofit or government setting
