Job Description: Endoscopy Registered Nurse-Charge

Supervised By: Endoscopy Director

Responsible for Supervision of: Registered nurses, licensed practice nurses, medical assistants, certified nurse aides, and scope technicians as assigned by the site’s Endoscopy Director.

General Responsibilities: Under the guidance of the registered nurse license, supervision of the physician and in collaboration with the site’s endoscopy director for endoscopy services, the endoscopy charge nurse is responsible for the overall daily operations of the endoscopy center and nursing staff. The charge nurse is expected to provide leadership, direction, coordination, and administration to the department as needed. 

Other Responsibilities (in addition to Endoscopy RN responsibilities):
1.    Coordinate daily nursing assignments for designated endoscopy location as well as lunch breaks and coverage for endoscopy staff when needed
2.    Monitor daily endoscopy cases/schedules and report concerns or conflicts to appropriate department including Endoscopy Director
3.    Participation in the hiring and on-boarding process for new endoscopy employees
4.    Complete orientation and yearly performance reviews for assigned personnel with support from the site’s Endoscopy Director
5.    Advocate for merit increases for employees as needed
6.    Coordination and follow up on employee improvement plans as necessary
7.    Responsible for managing daily sick calls and ensuring adequate staffing for each endoscopy location
8.    Assume some endoscopy director duties as assigned by the endoscopy director if the endoscopy director is on leave/out of office
9.    Coordinate staff meeting, staff training, education and fire drills throughout the year as required by accreditation standards and company policy along with the site endoscopy director 
10.    Complete daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly required maintenance, log reviews, chart audits and equipment checks as required along with the facilities director.
11.    Assist with quality improvement projects as required for accreditation with guidance from the site’s endoscopy director and QAPI coordinator.
12.    Oversee and maintain policy, procedure, and safety compliance
13.    Ensure staff are following infection control procedures and policies
14.    Encourage a culture that promotes staff productivity, patient safety and positivity
15.    Maintain awareness of supply and medication stock. Ensure that appropriate products and medications are reordered in a timely manner
16.    Provide direct patient care as needed
17.    Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

•    Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
•    Current Idaho State license to practice as Registered Nurse
•    Experience in ambulatory surgery or endoscopy preferred
•    Membership in Gastroenterology or endoscopy specialty or other local, state or national professional societies encouraged
•    Maintains BLS and ACLS certifications and re-certification as required
•    Supervisory experience preferred
