State of Idaho - Department of Administration Opportunity

Are you ready for a new challenge? The Department of Administration is looking for a Risk Management Program Specialist. Join us and be part of one of the most diverse agencies in Idaho State Government, located in the shadow of the Capitol Building in beautiful downtown Boise.

Example of Duties:

  • Receive, review, process, investigate, adjust, and authorize settlements of limited to mid-range liability, property, inland marine and automobile damage claims;
  • Research, analyze and interpret laws and policies, establish appropriate reserves and develop plans of action to resolve claims;
  • Verify content, possible negligence and proper filing of claims in accordance with the Idaho Tort Claim Act;
  • Determine sources and information necessary to evaluate claims; direct collection of information from claimant, state, adjusters and other sources and analyze adjuster reports;
  • Analyze loss reports to determine severity of loss and liability of the state;
  • Conducts interviews with parties, directs outside adjusters and may manage and direct legal counsel assigned to defend the state;
  • Evaluate low to mid-range severity bodily injury claims and will seek subrogration to collect reimbursement where appropriate;
  • Deny unjustified claims, negotiate compromise settlements and make settlements up to the limit of authority or recommend payment for just compensation above the limit of authority.


Minimum Qualifications (required):

  • Some knowledge of management practices; program or project planning and implementation;
  • Experience developing and evaluation policies and procedures.


Specialty Minimum Qualifications:

  • Good knowledge of basic insurance and general claims handling;
  • Some knowledge of the Idaho Tort Claims Act; law, damages, and collection procedures used in the collection of subrogated debt;
  • Experience directing activities of independent adjusters; using computer systems, software, and databases for information entry and retrieval; and drafting business correspondence.

Please note: The successful candidate will be required to pass a fingerprint-based background check.

This position will also interact with a diverse customer base and must be able to interact in a non-partisan manner when working in political environments.
