Summary:

The mission of the Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC)is to create a model correctional system that provides equitable access to programming and opportunities that reflect a community experience, foster connections, and restore victims of crime. IDOC has a vacancy for a full time Drug & Alcohol Rehabilitation Specialist (DARS). This position will work within the Division of Probation and Parole at the District 7 office located in Idaho Falls, ID. This position supports clients by conducting intake interviews, facilitating groups, administering assessments, and coordinating care with internal and external partners. Success requires knowledge of substance use treatment, experience in assessment and case management, strong computer skills, and the ability to work flexible hours in correctional or probation/parole settings. Responsibilities:

1. Conduct initial intake interviews with clients and make collateral contacts to obtain background data and social information.
2. Facilitation of group and coordination of care within IDOC and with external programs.
3. Administer screening/assessment and prepare reports within assigned deadlines.
4. Coordinate service authorizations with IDOC Central Office SUD team and assist in policy and program development.
5. Participate with community groups and other public agencies in developing program needs and problem-solving techniques.

Minimum Qualifications: Your resume needs to clearly articulate how your skills, education and experience meet the qualifications below –

1. Good knowledge of drug & alcohol treatment course work. Typically gained by a minor in addiction studies, or graduate certificate.
2. Experience to include performing client assessments and case management; developing and implementing treatment plans; and monitoring client behaviors. Typically gained by at least 3 credits with in the 12 core functions (screening/assessment or case management) or closely related field OR at least 6 months of full-time work experience in a behavioral health clinic/or substance use disorder program providing client with screening and assessment tools.
3. Proficient in computer data entry, electronic mail, composing reports and letters, and storing and retrieving documents. Typically gained by familiarity with Office 365, Outlook, or other like programs.
4. Willing to work non-traditional hours (evening hours up to 10 p.m. and/or weekends) in a correctional facility and/or probation and parole district office providing program facilitation and case management services to individuals under IDOC jurisdiction.

Required Qualifications:

1. Meet IDAPA 16.07.17 guidance before beginning employment. This includes the following minimal licensure, or eligibility for licensure, within 90 days of hire: Substance Use Disorder Associate (SUDA), Idaho Student of Addiction Studies (ISAS), or Certified Drug/Alcohol Counselor (CADC), Advanced Certified Alcohol/Drug Counselor, Master Addictions Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Masters Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Physician Assistant, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Psychologist, or Physician.

Desirable Qualifications:

1. Some knowledge of the criminal justice system. Typically gained by at least 6 college level credits in criminal justice or a closely related field OR at least 6 months of full-time work experience in a corrections or law enforcement setting involving daily interaction with clients or offenders to enforce security and safety procedures in a corrections or law enforcement setting (i.e. probation & parole officer, correctional officer, case manager, mental health or criminal justice professional) OR completion of a collegiate internship (at least 150 hours) in a criminal justice setting.
2. Some knowledge of screening/assessing with ASAM criteria. Typically gained by at least 3 credits with in the 12 core functions or closely related field OR at least 6 months of full-time work experience in a behavioral health clinic/or substance use disorder program providing client with screening and assessment tools.
