Role Description The Plant Utility Operator is a full-time, on-site role based in Burley, ID, responsible for supporting the safe and efficient operation of plant utilities and related equipment. Day-to-day tasks include monitoring, operating, and adjusting utility systems such as boilers, steam generation, water and wastewater systems, and compressed air to ensure consistent performance and compliance with standards. The role involves performing routine inspections, basic maintenance, and troubleshooting issues with utility equipment to minimize downtime and support production needs. The Plant Utility Operator will document readings, maintain logs, follow safety and environmental procedures, and coordinate with maintenance and production teams to resolve operational issues. This position requires adherence to company policies, active participation in safety programs, and flexibility to work rotating shifts, weekends, or overtime as needed.
In this role, you will operate, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot plant utility systems, including boilers, chillers, HVAC and rooftop units, air compressors, water systems, wastewater systems, fire protection equipment, and electrical gear.
What You’ll Do
- Operate and monitor boilers, chillers, HVAC equipment, air compressors, and water systems.
- Operate and maintain wastewater treatment equipment, including DAF, EQ, and lift-station systems.
- Monitor meters, gauges, plant effluent, and system performance to support regulatory compliance.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance, including lubrication, belt and filter changes, cleaning, pump repair, coil cleaning, and pipefitting.
- Troubleshoot utility problems and coordinate specialized repairs with outside contractors when needed.
- Complete work orders and maintain accurate utility, maintenance, laboratory, and downtime records.
- Test water, steam, wastewater, and air.
- Support plant maintenance personnel, equipment vendors, and technicians.
- Help identify root causes of downtime and implement corrective actions.
- Promote safe work practices and support continuous improvement throughout the plant.
What We’re Looking For
- Five or more years of industrial utility experience is preferred.
- Technical or trade school education, military training, an electrical or mechanical degree, or a comparable certificate is preferred.
- Experience troubleshooting and repairing industrial electromechanical, pneumatic, and process-instrumentation systems.
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, shop drawings, manuals, and electrical or mechanical schematics.
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize competing needs, and respond effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- CMMS knowledge and CIRO certification are preferred.
Starting Wage
$30 hourly base wage
Schedule
Rotating 2-2-3 approximately 12 hour shift schedule on days from 6:45 am - 7 pm
Physical Requirements
