Chinese English Translator

About the Role

Press Technology is a manufacturer specializing in press-fit fittings and critical components. We are seeking a skilled Chinese-English Technical Translator to support our manufacturing operations and international business activities in Hartselle, Alabama.

This position requires strong Chinese and English language skills, with an emphasis on technical documentation, manufacturing processes, and industrial equipment. The successful candidate will translate technical and business materials, provide interpretation during equipment installation and commissioning, and facilitate communication between Chinese-speaking colleagues, U.S. suppliers, customers, and other business partners.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically minded, and comfortable working directly with engineering, production, quality, and equipment teams in a manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Translate documents between Chinese and English, primarily from Chinese to English, including technical manuals, operating instructions, maintenance procedures, process documentation, product specifications, contracts, emails, and general business materials.
• Translate and localize equipment documentation, including installation instructions, operating and maintenance manuals, safety procedures, commissioning reports, and troubleshooting guides.
• Provide consecutive interpretation during equipment installation, setup, debugging, commissioning, acceptance testing, and employee training.
• Facilitate communication between Chinese-speaking technical personnel and U.S. equipment suppliers, customers, contractors, and business partners.
• Provide interpretation support during business meetings, customer visits, technical discussions, and trade shows.
• Develop and maintain technical glossaries, terminology databases, and translation memory to ensure consistency and accuracy across documents.
• Review, proofread, and edit translations for technical accuracy, clarity, professionalism, and readability.
• Collaborate with engineering, production, equipment maintenance, quality, and international business teams to support daily operations and project deadlines.
• Handle confidential technical, operational, and business information appropriately.

Qualifications

• Strong written and spoken proficiency in both Chinese and English, with demonstrated ability to translate technical and business documents accurately.
• Previous experience translating technical materials, particularly equipment manuals, operating procedures, maintenance documentation, or manufacturing process documents.
• Three or more years of professional translation or interpretation experience preferred. Candidates with relevant technical expertise and strong language skills may be considered with less experience.
• Ability to understand technical terminology and communicate complex equipment or process information clearly.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments and cultures.
• Ability to work on-site in Hartselle, Alabama.

A bachelor's degree in Translation, English, Mechanical Engineering, Automation, or a related field is preferred but not required. Equivalent professional experience, technical training, or industry knowledge will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in press-fit fittings, pipe fittings, valves, piping systems, hardware, or other manufacturing industries.
• Familiarity with mechanical equipment, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, molds, inspection equipment, production machinery, or industrial automation.
• Experience supporting equipment installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, acceptance testing, or overseas manufacturing projects.
• Familiarity with quality management systems, ISO standards, CE-related documentation, or export certification requirements
• Experience working with U.S.-based manufacturers, suppliers, customers, or international business teams.

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
