GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Inventory Control Specialist is responsible for maintaining accurate inventory records through routine cycle counts of raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods across warehouse, shipping, and production areas. This role ensures discrepancies are identified and corrected, supporting compliance with inventory standards and enabling accurate scheduling and resource planning.
CORE & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Manage and complete weekly physical inventory counts and/or cycle counts to maintain accurate perpetual inventory within the Production and Paper Departments
• Monitor inventory levels against sales orders and escalate shortages to Plant Management to ensure timely resolution
• Maintain a high level of inventory accuracy and integrity through proper counts and investigations
• Work closely with the Distribution Manager to assign all inventories to the correct “ABC” classification and adhere to the defined schedule
• Ensure cycle counts are completed on schedule
• Adhere to cycle counting procedures and guidelines
• Research discrepancies between physical and system count
• Maintain count records and data files
• Prepare daily reports from cycle counts to help with planning if there are any discrepancies
• Track and report on non-conforming products
• Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations
• Responsible for answering customer service, warehouse, production, and engineering inquiries promptly
• Support plant teams with periodic physical inventory count as required by the business
• Proactively check that inventories are being utilized in a FIFO format to ensure proper rotation is being achieved
• Assist in updating dimensions and weights for all materials in the existing and future ERP systems
• Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
Proven experience as an Inventory Control Specialist preferred. High school diploma or equivalent preferred; technical degree is a plus. In lieu of a degree, a comparable combination of education, job specific certification(s), and experience (including military service) may be considered. Ability to manage time and organization of multiple priorities and projects is essential. Demonstrates strong comprehension of written instructions, correspondence, and memos, and the ability to effectively share information with others. Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Must be able to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and solve problems involving multiple variables and different levels of complexity. Computer proficiency in company required software and Microsoft Office (outlook, word, excel) is required. Adherence to health and safety regulations (e.g. constant use of protective gear). Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail. Work effectively to meet or exceed productivity goals. Must work effectively with others. Ability to work overtime and flexible schedules/shifts. Maintains a positive attitude and contributes to a positive work environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Utilize office equipment, including personal computers and copiers. Ability to communicate in writing in a clear, concise, and effective manner. Sit, walk, or stand for extended time periods. Hearing and vision are required to be within normal ranges. Read at, above, and below shoulder height. Occasionally stoop, kneel, or crouch. Sufficient manual dexterity is required to operate office equipment. Ability to maintain regular, predictable, and punctual attendance at the facility. Must wear all required personal protective equipment in designated areas and use necessary care to avoid placing self and others in an unsafe environment. Hearing and vision are required to be within normal ranges. Ability to accurately distinguish color variation. Read at, above, and below shoulder height. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to communicate orally and in writing in a clear, concise and effective manner with the co-workers, company representatives, management, and staff in face-to-face, one-on-one and group settings. Tolerate inclement weather, including heat and cold. Must have a normal level of tolerance for chemicals and/or airborne particles and noise level tolerance.
