Position Overview

ICO Energy & Engineering is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer who is results-driven, detail-oriented, and interested in working in a collaborative and entrepreneurial environment.

The Mechanical Engineer will support clients throughout the Northeast on projects related to optimization of facilities including modeling potential opportunities for measures to accomplish client goals. This position will primarily focus on energy engineering efforts, including building energy audits, focused energy studies, energy modeling, and analysis, while also supporting commissioning and other consulting services as needed.

This role requires the ability to combine engineering theory with hands-on field experience. The ideal candidate will evaluate facility operations, analyze system performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and develop practical recommendations that align with client goals.

The Mechanical Engineer will have the opportunity to lead selected projects, work directly with clients and stakeholders, and contribute to solutions that improve building performance, reduce energy consumption, and enhance operational reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support energy engineering projects.
  • Perform building energy audits, focused energy studies, and facility assessments.
  • Conduct field investigations, verify existing conditions, and collect operational data.
  • Develop energy models and perform engineering calculations and analysis.
  • Evaluate mechanical systems and building operations to identify energy and operational improvements.
  • Support commissioning and re-commissioning activities, including system evaluations and functional testing.
  • Prepare technical reports, recommendations, and client deliverables.
  • Communicate findings to stakeholders ranging from facility personnel to senior leadership.
  • Collaborate with ICO engineers and support proposal development as needed.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 5 years of experience in energy modeling, analysis, and/or measurement and verification (M&V).
  • Strong understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and mass/energy flow principles.
  • Knowledge of energy and power systems.
  • Understanding of building operations and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Experience with energy modeling, energy studies, and financial performance metrics.
  • Experience with eQuest or similar modeling programs preferred.
  • Experience with commissioning, re-commissioning, or monitoring-based commissioning preferred.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and engineering software.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.


Work Environment & Benefits

This position includes a combination of remote work, office collaboration, and on-site project activities. Engineers typically spend 2-3 days per week visiting project sites throughout New England, with minimal overnight travel required.
