The Family Office Counsel is a trusted legal advisor responsible for safeguarding and advancing the interests of the Principal, the family, and their enterprises. This role provides comprehensive legal guidance across business transactions, investment structuring, governance, trust matters, regulatory compliance, and asset management. The Counsel works closely with senior leadership, the Chief Legal Officer, and external advisors to ensure that the family’s personal, business, and philanthropic objectives are implemented with precision, integrity, and discretion.
The position requires a high level of professional judgment, strategic thinking, and the ability to manage complex, multigenerational legal and business matters. The Family Office Counsel will operate in a fast-paced environment, balancing competing priorities while upholding the family office’s values of confidentiality, excellence, and long-term value creation. This individual plays a key role in building a legal framework that not only protects the family’s assets but also supports the growth of their businesses, investments, and legacy initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
Legal Advisory & Governance
- Provide legal counsel on business transactions, investments, and family office operations.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, governance documents, and investment agreements.
- Support corporate, trust, and family office governance frameworks to ensure compliance and continuity.
- Assist with the design and implementation of policies, procedures, and controls to mitigate legal and regulatory risk.
- Conduct legal due diligence on direct investments, co-investments, and fund opportunities across equity, debt, real estate, and alternative assets.
- Advise on structuring transactions to balance risk management, tax efficiency, and long-term family objectives.
- Collaborate with investment, accounting, and tax professionals to ensure coordinated execution.
- Ensure compliance with applicable corporate, regulatory, employment, and fiduciary laws.
- Identify and proactively mitigate legal risks affecting the family office and affiliated entities.
- Monitor regulatory developments and advise leadership on potential impact.
- Manage relationships with outside law firms and other advisors to ensure cost-effective, high-quality service delivery.
- Serve as a point of coordination between external counsel and the family office team, ensuring alignment with objectives.
- Collaborate closely with the President, Chief Legal Officer, and senior leadership to align legal strategies with family and enterprise priorities.
- Provide clear, solutions-oriented legal advice in high-stakes and time-sensitive situations.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the Principal and family members, demonstrating discretion, judgment, and integrity at all times.
- Handle all family and business matters with the utmost confidentiality and discretion.
- Uphold the highest ethical and professional standards in all dealings.
- Foster a culture of trust, accountability, and long-term value creation within the family office.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited institution.
- Licensed to practice in Florida. Other state bar licensure a plus.
- 4–6 years of legal practice experience with emphasis on:
- Business transactions and contracts
- Asset management and governance structures
- Investment documentation
- Employment-related matters
- Trust matters and regulatory compliance
- Familiarity with estate and tax planning is strongly preferred.
- Large law firm training/experience desirable.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Self-starter with high confidence, accountability, and ownership of work.
- Proven ability to manage sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
- Demonstrated success working in a fast-paced environment while balancing multiple priorities and a substantial workload.
- Some understanding of healthcare industry is helpful.
