What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior RF Engineer position at Icarus?
At Icarus, we build solar-powered drones that fly at the edge of space for a very long time. This isn’t a job for spectators. As a Senior RF Engineer, you will design, integrate, test, and validate the communication systems that keep our aircraft connected above 60,000 feet. You will be a core executor of our communications architecture. LOS, BLOS, mesh, and everything in between. If you want real ownership, real hardware, and real flight milestones, this is it.
You will work closely with the CEO and the core engineering team to architect RF systems end to end: antennas, front ends, amplifiers, filters, link budgets, waveforms, EMI mitigation, and high-altitude environmental performance. You will take RF hardware from concept to flight, integrating with avionics, power systems, and payloads while driving rapid test cycles between the lab, the field, and the stratosphere.
We want builders. No hand-holding. No fluff. No fake projects. Just raw engineering with flight on the line. You must thrive under pressure, debug noisy systems, characterize hardware at altitude, and push RF performance to its limits. We move fast. We go to Mojave at 4 in the morning. We expect results and an obsession with quality, reliability, and speed.
