TEACHER - Upper School Science

Licensed, Interim Upper School biology teacher needed at IC Imagine Public Charter School in Asheville.   

The teacher is expected to plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive curriculum for a multitude of science courses for grades 9-12 with the preferred emphasis in biology and earth sciences. 

Salary based on IC Imagine’s Salary Schedule.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Demonstrate extensive knowledge of NC standards in the sciences
• Use resources necessary to plan, implement, and evaluate an engaging, age-appropriate course of study that follows the guidelines of the NC Standards for all courses taught
• Design instruction appropriate for all students that reflects an understanding of relevant content and is based on continuous and appropriate assessment
• Implement SEL Curriculum and lead advisory group
• Collaborate with other teachers, support staff and the IC Imagine community to enhance the educational opportunities for all students
• Participate in Standard Based Grading practices and track/communicate attendance thresholds
• Prepare students for participation in state assessments
• Prepare and deliver appropriate instruction for intervention and enrichment groups
• Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners
• Maintain a positive attitude and contribute to the positive school climate
• Frequent oral and written communication with parents and families of students
• Frequent oral and written communication with colleagues and administrators
• Manage inventory and repair of instructional resources and equipment
• Plan and facilitate student field trips to provide enrichment opportunities
• Follow the processes laid out in the faculty handbook, respond to emails in a timely manner, keep grades updated weekly, and correspond regularly with families with pertinent information for courses taught.
• Perform additional duties including, but not limited to supervision during non-instructional time, attending after-school events and meetings, participating in enrollment activities leading and during the Open Enrollment period.
• Adhere to all legal and ethical requirements of the teaching profession and set an example for others to do the same.

• Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
• Maintain effective working relationships
• Strong supervisory and leadership skills to manage and control the classroom
• Possess strong time management skills
• Ability to prioritize workload and multitask in a busy environment
• Willingness to teach a range of high school courses and possibly college level courses
• Proficiency with G Suite

Education and Experience:

• Minimum Bachelor’s Degree
• Masters in biology or other science preferred in order to teach dual enrollment courses through AB Tech partnership.  Additional Stipend for AB Tech courses.
• Advanced placement (AP) training preferred
• Valid North Carolina teaching license
• 1-3 years teaching experience preferred

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods of standing, kneeling, squatting, reaching and bending
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
• Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at times
