Job Summary
The Building Plan Reviewer examines construction drawings and specifications for residential and commercial projects to ensure compliance with state/local building codes, zoning ordinances, and safety regulations before permits are issued. They work with architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure alignment with construction codes for structural, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems, ensuring public safety and regulatory compliance

Job Summary
The Building Plan Reviewer examines construction drawings and specifications for residential and commercial projects to ensure compliance with state/local building codes, zoning ordinances, and safety regulations before permits are issued. They work with architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure alignment with construction codes for structural, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems, ensuring public safety and regulatory compliance
Key Responsibilities
- Review architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, thermal, energy, and fire safety designs for compliance with the IBC (International Building Code) standards, national standards and local ordinances.
- Perform independent calculations to verify performance-based design elements.
- Collaborate with colleagues, including planning, fire and engineering, to confirm findings and recommend corrective measures.
- Provide feedback via written reports (correction letters) to architects, engineers, and contractors regarding code compliance and design flaws.
- Participate in professional development training and maintain current knowledge of codes and best practices.
- Maintain design files and records.
- Five years of construction experience required.
- Possession of or ability to obtain ICC (International Code Council) certifications in building, electrical, mechanical, or plumbing plan review.
- Deep understanding of construction practices, materials, and municipal codes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, CAD and Adobe Acrobat.
- Strong analytical, technical review, and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organization, time management, and ability to manage shifting workloads.
- Valid driver’s license required.
