Job Overview:
IBT Connect is seeking 2 experienced Fiber Technicians / Installers to oversee and perform Fiber to the Home (FTTH) installations in DeSoto and Highlands County, Florida. The successful candidate will lead a team of installers, ensure high-quality fiber optic installations, troubleshoot outages, repair damaged cables, and provide exceptional customer service while coordinating with the Network Operations Center (NOC) and back-office teams.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of FTTH installers, ensuring adherence to company standards and safety protocols
- Complete and oversee work orders for fiber optic installations and service calls
- Provision, configure, and test modems and Optical Network Units (ONUs)
- Route, splice, and install fiber optic cables in residential and commercial environments
- Troubleshoot fiber outages and perform diagnostics to identify and resolve network issues
- Prep and splice damaged or cut fiber optic cables to restore service
- Educate customers on equipment usage and service features
- Troubleshoot complex equipment and network issues in collaboration with the NOC and back-office teams
- Ensure installations meet industry standards, permit requirements, and customer expectations
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and team activities
- Assist in training new technicians on fiber optic installation, troubleshooting, and repair techniques
- Support the FTTH Plant/Operations/Fulfillment Manager in operational planning and reporting
Requirements
- 3 years of experience as a Fiber Optic Installer or similar role
- Proven expertise in cable TV, low voltage, electrical, or telephone installations
- Advanced knowledge of fiber optic splicing, termination, testing, and FTTH installation processes
- Ability to troubleshoot fiber outages and perform diagnostics on fiber networks
- Proficiency in prepping and splicing damaged or cut fiber optic cables
- Experience leading or supervising small teams in a technical or field-based environment
- Proficiency with FTTH equipment, including modems, ONUs, and industry-standard testing tools
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to coordinate with NOC and back-office teams
- Excellent communication skills for customer interaction, team leadership, and reporting
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in fiber optic installation (e.g., FOA CFOT or equivalent)
- Experience working with permitting processes in DeSoto and Highlands County
- Familiarity with network management software and operational reporting
- Prior experience mentoring or training technicians
