Credentialing Specialist Job Description
- The Credentialing Specialist is responsible for supporting the credentialing process to ensure all contracted providers maintain current and accurate documentation. This role involves managing provider files, coordinating applications for hospital and facility privileges, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The Credentialing Assistant plays a key role in maintaining organized records, updating provider data in systems like CAQH, and collaborating with internal departments to support timely and efficient credentialing.
Credentialing Specialist Salary and Benefits
- Starting salary of $23/hr
- Approximately 40 hours/week
- Work week is Monday-Friday, though days and times are flexible within that time frame
- No nights or weekends

Credentialing Specialist Responsibilities
- Assist the Credentialing Director as directed to obtain documentation needed for credentialing.
- Ensure needed and current documentation is on file for all contracted providers.
- Complete and submit provider applications for hospital and specified nursing facility privileges.
- Enter new providers into the CAQH system with accuracy and perform ongoing data management.
- Coordinate, complete, and follow-up on the reappointment process for contracted facilities.
- Interact with providers, billing, and scheduling to communicate credentialing progress throughout.
- Assist manager with maintaining detailed and organized files and records.
Credentialing Specialist Position Requirements
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Some college preferred.
- Experience: 2 years’ experience with medical insurance credentialing required. 1 year experience in a medical staff office or credentialing position preferred.
- Prior experience with CAQH, EPPES and PECOS.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and the ability and willingness to work collaboratively as a team member are required.
- Legible handwriting required.
- Ability to read, understand and apply practice standards, technical procedures and other standards and regulations.
- Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously while meeting internal service expectations and deadlines.
- Expert computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and electronic medical records.
- Ability and willingness to solve problems, make and effectively communicate recommendations.
