What are the responsibilities and job description for the Phlebotomist - PRN position at Iberia General Hospital And Medical Center?
JOB SUMMARY:
As a Phlebotomist, this employee is responsible for
collection of specimens for lab testing on inpatients, outpatients, emergency
room and clinic patients. Responsible for application of learned techniques necessary to
obtain quality specimens to aid the techs in reliable results. The Phlebotomist will be responsible for
developing computer skills for the Laboratory Information System and complying
with all regulatory requirements, including Lab Compliance. This position
requires adept social skills and compassion. As
secretarial relief, this employee is responsible for distribution
of lab reports, filing, ordering supplies, handling drug screen accounts and
paperwork, and registering Home Health patients. Additional projects may be delegated as the
need arises.
WORK HOURS:
Employee will be provided a routine 8 or 12 hour schedule, plus at least
1 weekend every month and equal share of holidays, with occasional rotation to
other shifts to meet staffing needs.
Shift hours may occasionally be cut or overtime required in accordance
with patient volume.
SUPERVISED BY:
Techs, Chief Phlebotomist, Chief Tech, Laboratory Manager: then chain of command to Medical Director and
C.O.O.
EDUCATION
High school
diploma, Current certification for DOT Drug Screen Collections may be required,
Current certification for EBT may be required.

TRAINING AND
EXPERIENCE
Phlebotomy and Medical Office experience or training required
JOB KNOWLEDGE
Phlebotomy
experience a plus, May be required to have experience collecting drug screens
with COC, May be required to have experience with BAT
PRINCIPLE TASKS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Ordering lab tests in LIS Perform venipuncture on patients Appropriate documentation where required Reviewing OP charts Verifying medical necessity, calling
physicians offices, getting ABN’s signed Performing drug screens with COC Possibly performing EKG’s Possibly performing Breath Alcohol
Testing Packaging lab tests for Reference Lab Packaging drug screens for Reference Lab Use of AIDET and customer service skills
