Position Summary
In partnership with the Business Development Manager, the Distribution Sales Consultant (DSC) is responsible for driving sales growth and expanding market share within assigned territories. This role focuses on managing existing accounts, developing new business opportunities, and maintaining consistent communication with leads and customers. The DSC will also support in-store operations as needed, assisting customers and utilizing the POS system to ensure a seamless sales experience.
Essential Job Functions
Researches, tracks, and analyzes market trends to support strategic recommendations that drive territory growth.
Regularly reviews performance metrics and adjusts sales strategies to stay aligned with monthly goals established by the Sales Manager.
Establishes a consistent weekly schedule that is made up of phone calls, emails, text messages, and may include field- based visits to close sales. Provides consultative support to clients through business planning, CRM maintenance, product and brand education, marketing recommendations, promotion updates, and continuing education opportunities.
Identify and pursue new business opportunities, including traveling within the assigned territory to convert warm leads into long-term salon partnerships through in-person consultation and onboarding. Utilizes multiple lead generation strategies such as cold calls, referrals, and online research to develop a robust customer pipeline and increase sales revenue within the assigned region. Serves as the main point of contact for customer service, shipping, and billing concerns.
Coordinates with internal departments to ensure fast and effective resolution. Monitors and manages backorders to minimize lost sales and enhance client satisfaction. Remains actively engaged in the beauty industry by subscribing to industry resources, reading trade publications, and following brand and competitor activity on social media.
Attends trade shows and training events to strengthen product knowledge, develop leads, and build customer relationships. Maintains comprehensive knowledge of all represented brands, including product features, benefits, and usage instructions.
Acts as the subject matter expert for customer inquiries and collaborates on brand initiatives by providing valuable feedback. Deliver a high standard of customer service by welcoming guests, answering questions, and providing personalized product recommendations. Use sales techniques such as suggestive selling to drive sales and enhance the customer experience.
Open and close the store, following all security and operational procedures. Operate the Point-of-Sale (POS) system to accurately process sales, returns, and exchanges. Complete daily reporting and cash deposit duties as needed. Perform merchandising tasks including pricing, stocking shelves, unloading pallets, and maintaining a clean and organized store environment. Attend all scheduled team meetings and training sessions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Physical Requirements
High school diploma required; 2–3 years of experience in sales, retail, or account management is required.
Experience within the professional beauty industry is strongly preferred. Must have a valid driver’s license and provide proof of insurance.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills are essential. The ideal candidate must demonstrate professionalism across all communication platforms and possess strong organizational and time-management abilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is required, along with familiarity with CRM tools, social media, and digital communication platforms. The candidate must be highly self-motivated and capable of working independently in a fast- paced environment while maintaining a strong focus on sales growth and new business development.
Physical requirements include extended periods of sitting, standing, bending, and lifting. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs without assistance. Position requires occasional travel within the assigned territory, along with time spent working in-store at The Style Garage.
