Job Summary:
The Consumer Loan Underwriter is responsible for reviewing, assessing, and analyzing all aspects of a consumer loan application. This individual evaluates the risks of offering loans in order to approve/decline credit extension in addition to minimizing risk/loss.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

- Evaluate and make independent decisions on credit, income, assets and risk to determine the income or probability of repayment for loan requests.
- Communicate the decisions (approvals/denials) of all credit applications to their appropriate parties.
- Provide loan support to all loan officers when necessary.
- Verify customer documentation for accuracy, completion, and adherence to policies and procedures.
- Establish documentation requirements on all approved applications that meet standards set by internal/external guidelines.
- Understand and comply with applicable Federal and State laws, banking regulations, and company policies and procedures.
- Prepare reports detailing risk assessment findings and other data that contribute to lending decisions.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
- Four-year degree or relevant experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook required.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
- Superior organizational and time management skills.
