As a small and local family owned business we believe the Refuse Collector plays a vital role in maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of the beautiful county of Santa Fe. This position involves operating specialized vehicles to collect waste and recyclables mainly from residential locations. The ideal candidate will be physically fit, possess strong driving skills, and have a commitment to safety and efficiency.
Duties
- Operate refuse collection vehicles, including stake body trucks along with dump trailers to collect waste and recycling.
- Manually load and unload refuse from designated collection points, ensuring all materials are properly secured for transport.
- Clean driving record and no DUIs.
- No CDL Required.
- Perform routine inspections and maintenance on vehicles and equipment to ensure safe operation.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols while on duty, including the proper handling of materials.
- Communicate effectively with team members and the public regarding collection schedules and procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness of the vehicle and equipment after each shift.
- Assist in training new staff on safe driving practices and operational procedures.
Skills
- Proficient in driving with a valid driver's license; experience with bumper pull trailer is preferred/required.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting, as the role requires handling substantial loads during collection.
- Familiarity with flatbed trucks and various refuse collection equipment is advantageous.
- Common mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot minor vehicle issues as they arise.
- Experience as a delivery driver is beneficial for understanding route management and time efficiency.
- Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with team members and customers.
