Registered Nurse – Facility/Correctional Healthcare

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to provide professional nursing care in a structured healthcare setting. The RN will assess patients, administer medications and treatments, respond to medical emergencies, maintain accurate medical records, and collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure quality patient care.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with patients who may have complex medical needs and in an environment requiring strong clinical judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to respond quickly to changing situations.

Essential Job Duties

Patient Care & Assessment

• Provide professional nursing care to patients in an inpatient, infirmary, clinic, or structured healthcare setting.
• Observe, assess, and document patients' symptoms, reactions, conditions, and progress.
• Conduct nursing rounds and monitor patients' overall health status.
• Obtain and accurately record vital signs and other clinical information.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate patient care plans.
• Provide direct nursing care based on individual patient needs.
• Educate patients regarding medications, treatments, health conditions, and recommended follow-up care.

Medications & Treatments

• Prepare and administer prescribed medications, including controlled medications, according to established procedures.
• Administer ordered treatments and immunizations.
• Monitor patients for medication effectiveness, adverse reactions, and changes in condition.
• Maintain accurate documentation of medications, treatments, and patient responses.
• Maintain accurate inventory and security of controlled medications and medical supplies.

Emergency & Specialized Care

• Respond promptly to medical emergencies and provide appropriate first aid and emergency nursing care.
• Assist with emergency response procedures and participate in code/emergency response teams.
• Arrange transportation or referrals for patients requiring a higher level of medical care.
• Contact physicians and other healthcare providers when necessary.
• Perform specialized nursing procedures as required, which may include:
• • IV therapy
  • Wound care
  • Oxygen therapy
  • Blood transfusions
  • Dialysis
  • Tube feeding
  • Catheterization
  • Suctioning
  • Phlebotomy
  • CPR
• Monitor patients requiring increased observation or special precautions and document observations according to established protocols.

Documentation & Administrative Duties

• Maintain complete and accurate patient charts and medical records.
• Document medications, treatments, assessments, incidents, and changes in patient condition.
• Complete required incident, accident, and other healthcare reports.
• Maintain accurate records related to medical services and patient care.
• Coordinate outpatient appointments, medical examinations, referrals, and follow-up care.
• Coordinate prescriptions and medication refills as ordered by healthcare providers.
• Order and maintain necessary medical supplies and equipment.
• Maintain accurate inventories of medications, controlled substances, equipment, and supplies.

Team Leadership & Collaboration

• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, healthcare professionals, and support staff to coordinate patient care.
• Provide direction and guidance to LPNs, nursing assistants, and other assigned healthcare staff when applicable.
• Serve as a lead nurse or shift leader when assigned.
• Assist with staff training, orientation, and professional development.
• Review patient care plans and provide guidance regarding appropriate nursing interventions.
• Participate in meetings, committees, problem-solving teams, and quality improvement activities.
• Serve as a resource and mentor to other members of the healthcare team.

Qualifications

• Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Previous nursing experience preferred.
• Experience in correctional

• Ability to respond effectively to medical emergencies.
• Ability to accurately document patient care and maintain confidential medical records.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
