The Royalty Accountant manages the accurate tracking, calculation, and payment of royalties to artists, authors, composers, licensors, and rights holders. The ideal candidate will possess strong financial acumen, knowledge of royalty agreements. This role plays a critical part in ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and supporting the business in rights-related financial reporting.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review and understand royalty contracts to ensure proper royalty calculation and reporting.
- Calculate, process, and distribute royalty payments to rights holders in accordance with contractual terms.
- Maintain and update royalty accounting databases with accurate financial and contractual data.
- Reconcile royalty statements and resolve any discrepancies with internal and external stakeholders.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual royalty reports for management and partners.
- Collaborate with owners to understand rights and revenue structures.
- Respond to inquiries from artists, agents, authors, and managers regarding royalty statements and payments.
- Assist in internal and external audits related to royalties and rights reporting.
- Monitor revenue streams (e.g., sales, streaming, licensing) to ensure all royalty-bearing activity is captured.
- Continuously improve royalty processes and help implement system enhancements where necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
- 2 years of experience in royalty accounting, general accounting, or financial reporting.
- Strong understanding of royalty structures in music, publishing, entertainment, or software industries.
- Proficient in Excel and accounting software; experience with royalty platforms (e.g., Counterpoint, Vistex, Curve, BrandComply) a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to understand and apply complex contract terms.
- Experience in the music, media, publishing, or entertainment industries.
- Familiarity with digital revenue platforms (e.g., Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, YouTube).

Monday - Friday, with occasional work outside of business hours including weekends. The position is hybrid at our offices in Highland Park.
