Overview
We are seeking a professional and detail-oriented Medical Receptionist to join our outpatient psychiatric care team. The ideal candidate will serve as the first point of contact for patients 8 years old and above, providing exceptional customer service while managing administrative tasks efficiently. This role requires familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems, medical billing, and coding processes, ensuring smooth clinic operations and compliance with healthcare regulations. Prior clinic or medical office experience is mandatory, along with strong computer skills and excellent communication abilities.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly and professionally at the front desk, managing multi-line phone systems with proper phone etiquette
- Schedule patient appointments using our EMR systems: eClinicalWorks.
- Verify insurance coverage and perform insurance verification processes for Medicare, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and other providers
- Collect payments and perform medical collections in accordance with HIPAA regulations
- Manage patient check-in and check-out procedures, including intake documentation review and data entry
- Maintain accurate medical records and ensure documentation compliance with HIPAA standards
- Assist with billing processes, including CPT coding, ICD-9/ICD-10 coding, and medical billing procedures
- Support clinical staff by preparing care plans and reviewing documentation as needed
- Handle filing of medical records and manage health information within EHR systems
- Support office management tasks such as filing, data entry (including 10 key typing), and maintaining organized office workflows
- Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations related to patient privacy and documentation standards
Skills
- Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or similar platforms
- Strong knowledge of psychiatric medical terminology, ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), CPT coding, and medical billing practices
- Experience with insurance verification processes and Medicare/Medicaid procedures
- Excellent customer service skills with professional phone etiquette and effective communication abilities
- Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy
- Familiarity with health information management standards and HIPAA compliance requirements
- Bilingual skills are a plus to serve diverse patient populations effectively
- Office management experience including clerical support, filing, data entry (typing skills), and office software proficiency such as Microsoft Office programs
- Previous clinic or dental office experience is highly desirable for understanding clinic workflows and dental terminology if applicable
