What are the responsibilities and job description for the Per Diem Cook position at IAM-3Rivers?
Openings; Per diem: picking up open shifts, covering vacations, or call out shifts.
JOB SUMMARY:
1. Prepare and cook all meals for the consumers and supporting staff.
Ensures proper sanitary requirements for dietary department
WORK HOURS: Full time, part time, and per diem positions as hired and scheduled. Weekend and holiday work is required.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Works indoors in well-lighted and ventilated rooms. Possibility of cuts or minor burns from equipment. May be exposed to communicable diseases. Possibility of strain or injury due to job requirements or from interacting with the consumers.

Specific Work Skills (These apply to one’s position):
1. Ensures that meals are served at the scheduled time.
2. Plans ahead by looking at the posted menu to check stock; pre-cooks or begins to slowly thaw out menu items needed in the near future.
3. Prepares meals for al the consumers and supporting staff according to the written cycle menu.
4. Substitutes items of the same quality when needed and documents such with food item,
date, and reason for change.
5. Prepares special food items as necessary to meet the consumer’s needs as outlined by
physician or dietitian.
6. Modifies textures according to the individual needs of the consumers as ordered by
physician.
7. Serves and delivers each meal, in a sanitary manner, to each house.
8. Prepares snacks for consumers as assigned.
9. Completes adequate preparation work, as assigned.
10. Starts long cooking supper menu items and does dessert baking, as assigned.
11. Washes and sanitizes dishes/pots/pans and returns them to designated areas.
12. Completes closing tasks, checking lights, fans, stoves, windows, and locking all doors.
13. Stocks each house with basic food supplies needed on a daily basis.
14. Rotates staples, freezer, and refrigerator stock items.
15. Keeps the kitchen, equipment and food store room in clean, and good running
condition.
16. Participates in routine and weekly cleaning.
17. Flexible.
18. Picks up shifts.
19. Practices high personal hygiene.
EDUCATION/ EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School diploma or equivalence preferred.
2. Has some experience in quantity cooking and knowledge of basic nutrition.
1. Must not be a convicted felon or convicted of a crime involving abuse of a person or animal.
4. Experience and/or a genuine interest in working with people with intellectual disabilities.
PHYSICAL/SPECIAL DEMANDS:
1. Ability to maintain a good working relationship with all levels of personnel.
2. Ability to lift 50 lbs. and withstand strenuous physical activity.
