Head of Warehouse Operations

I55 Book Fairs
Bryan, TX Full Time
POSTED ON 4/9/2026

ABOUT I55 BOOK FAIRS

At I55, our vision is for every child to delight in books that grow their minds, shape their hearts, and point them toward lasting truth. We run school book fairs nationwide, bringing that vision to life in communities across the country — all supported by our operations hub in Bryan, TX.

For over a decade, we’ve been building toward that vision — and the results are real. We’ve earned a place on the Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing companies in America two years in a row, were recognized as the 2nd fastest-growing business in Brazos County in 2024, and 1st in 2025.

But what matters most is not where we’ve been — it’s where we’re going next. We are building for a significantly larger future than our current operation supports today. That next stage will require stronger systems, deeper leadership, and a warehouse operation that can scale beyond a single location.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a proven operator to refine, strengthen, and scale our warehouse operation into a model that can support future expansion.

This is not a maintenance role.

You will step into an operation with a solid foundation — and take ownership of improving it, leading it, and preparing it to scale. You will lead a 15,000 sq ft warehouse and a team that grows to 40 employees across multiple shifts during peak seasons. More importantly, you will build the systems, structure, and leadership necessary to support multiple locations in the future.

This role sits on our executive leadership team and reports directly to the Owner. Your decisions will directly shape the trajectory of the company.

ABOUT OUR OPERATION

I55 is not a typical warehouse operation — and this role will require a leader who understands the difference.

We are a book fair company, which means our model works differently than traditional fulfillment.

Approximately 70% of the products we ship out are returned to us after each fair. Managing that reverse logistics flow efficiently — receiving, sorting, restocking, and preparing returned inventory for the next deployment — is a core part of what we do and requires systems and discipline that most warehouse leaders have never had to build.

Our inventory model is also unique. Because we sell books, standard FIFO rotation does not apply — which creates both flexibility and complexity in how we store and manage product. Each summer we rotate approximately 50% of our core inventory, introducing new titles while retiring others. This requires careful planning, strong systems, and a team that can execute large-scale inventory transitions without disrupting ongoing operations.

Add to this our intense seasonal peaks in fall and spring, and what you have is an operation that

demands a leader who can think differently, build smart systems, and lead a team through constant change.

If that sounds like a challenge you’re built for, we want to hear from you.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

In your first 12–18 months, success in this role will include:

  • Measurably improving order accuracy, throughput, and on-time delivery
  • Reducing labor cost per unit through better systems and workforce planning
  • Building and developing a strong leadership bench (supervisors and team leads)
  • Creating repeatable processes that can scale to additional warehouse locations
  • Increasing visibility through metrics, dashboards, and operational discipline
  • Strengthening a culture of accountability, ownership, and execution on the warehouse floor

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build and lead a high-performing team with clear expectations and accountability
  • Own all warehouse performance metrics (accuracy, throughput, cost, delivery)
  • Design and refine systems that improve efficiency and scalability
  • Plan capacity, staffing, and workflows for both peak seasons and long-term growth
  • Develop and coach supervisors and team leads to lead through others
  • Evaluate and improve warehouse technology (WMS, inventory systems, workflows)
  • Ensure a safe, organized, and highly disciplined operational environment
  • Track performance and drive continuous improvement through data
  • Contribute as a key voice on the executive leadership team

WHAT MAKES THIS ROLE CHALLENGING

This is a genuinely complex operation. You will be managing a high-volume reverse logistics model unlike most warehouse environments, navigating intense seasonal swings in volume and staffing, and driving meaningful change in an operation that is already functioning — but not yet optimized for scale.

At the same time, you will be expected to build structure, develop leaders, and lay the groundwork for expansion. The candidate who thrives here will be equally comfortable thinking strategically and getting into the details.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5 years leading warehouse or fulfillment operations
  • Experience leading teams of 25 employees, including supervisors or team leads
  • Proven success improving operational performance (efficiency, accuracy, or cost)
  • Experience in a growing or scaling environment
  • Demonstrated ability to build systems and improve processes — not just manage them
  • Ability to operate both strategically and hands-on when needed
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills

WHO THIS ROLE IS PERFECT FOR

You are a builder.

You’ve led warehouse or fulfillment teams before, but you’re not looking to maintain what exists — you want to improve it, scale it, and take ownership of outcomes.

You think in systems, not tasks. You naturally identify inefficiencies and take initiative to solve them.

You enjoy building processes that make teams more effective over time.

You lead through others. You develop people. You create clarity, accountability, and strong culture on your teams.

And you care about the mission behind the work. What moves through this warehouse matters — books that grow children’s minds and shape their hearts. Our mission is not background noise here; it is the reason we come to work.

WHO THIS ROLE IS NOT FOR

  • Those looking for a step up into their first leadership role
  • Individuals who prefer executing tasks over owning outcomes
  • Operators who are uncomfortable driving change or building systems
  • Candidates who are not motivated by a mission-driven environment

WHY JOIN I55

This is a company at an inflection point.

You will not just be managing a warehouse — you will be shaping the operational backbone of a growing company with a clear path toward expansion.

You will join a small, trusted executive team where your voice matters and your decisions have real impact.

Our culture is not theoretical. Our core values — Be Creative, Be Excellent, Be Generous, Be

Honorable, Be Worthy — shape how we operate every day.

If you are looking for a role where you will be challenged, trusted, and able to build something meaningful, this is that opportunity.
