In this role, you'll work directly with our construction, network engineering, and operations teams to test, activate, maintain, and repair critical fiber infrastructure. What You’ll Do
As a Field Network Technician, you’ll be responsible for maintaining and supporting our fiber network infrastructure, including:
Network Installation & Activation
- Install and configure network devices including routers, switches, firewalls, and Passive Optical Network (PON) equipment
- Conduct construction testing and activation of newly installed fiber networks
- Perform user acceptance testing and oversee contractor handoff for new installations
- Initiate fiber splicing when required
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Perform preventative maintenance and routine inspections of network infrastructure
- Respond to network outages and restore service quickly
- Pull fiber and perform repairs during service interruptions
- Replace and repair vaults, conduits, and other OSP assets
Network Operations Support
- Follow Method of Procedure (MOP) documents to ensure consistent and accurate work
- Maintain accurate network documentation and splicing schematics
- Collaborate closely with Network Engineering and Operations teams
- Provide clear updates and timelines during outage response
Infrastructure & Safety
- Assist with deployment and maintenance of network cabinets and node sites
- Conduct audits of completed network construction
- Support the development of best practices, safety policies, and operational procedures
- Safely operate heavy equipment, testing equipment, hand tools, and power tools
- Work around high-voltage DC power systems
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking a motivated technician who enjoys problem-solving and working with advanced network technology.
Required Skills
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, field-based environment
- Experience reading and maintaining fiber splicing diagrams and schematics
- Strong attention to detail and organization
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic network documentation tools
- Willingness to participate in continuous technical training
Additional Expectations
- Participate in on-call rotation
- Work occasional evenings, nights, or overtime when required
- Maintain a clean driving record
- Ability to pass a criminal background check
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED (technical or post-secondary education preferred)
- 5 years of experience in telecommunications, fiber networks, or multi-service provider environments
- Valid state driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Experience with fiber installation, repair, or OSP network maintenance
Physical Requirements
This is a hands-on field role that requires:
- Working outdoors in various weather conditions
- Walking, climbing, bending, crawling, and reaching
- Inspecting drawings, blueprints, and network diagrams
- Working in active construction environments
- Occasional travel
- Being on-call for emergencies, outages, or severe weather events
