What You'll Do

As a Community, Family & School Liaison, you'll help create a safe, engaging, and supportive environment where children can grow academically and emotionally.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead engaging after-school and summer enrichment activities
  • Facilitate literacy and social-emotional learning lessons
  • Mentor students through weekly academic and emotional check-ins
  • Build positive relationships with students and families
  • Connect families to school and community resources
  • Track attendance, student participation, and program outcomes
  • Assist with lesson planning, classroom organization, and program preparation
  • Capture student success through photos, videos, newsletters, and social media content
  • Support special events, family engagement nights, and community service projects
  • Participate in AmeriCorps trainings, member development days, and team meetings

No teaching experience is required—we provide training.

Basic Qualifications

Applicants must:

  • Be at least 17 years old
  • Meet AmeriCorps eligibility requirements
  • Successfully complete required background screenings
  • Commit to serving the entire member service year

Service Locations

Current placements include:

  • Kerrick Elementary
  • Jacob Elementary
  • Mt. Lebanon

Additional partner schools and community locations may become available throughout Louisville.

Service Commitment

Member Service Year
September 1 – July 30

During the School Year

  • Monday–Thursday (3:30 PM – 7:00 PM)
  • Members serve at least two afternoons each week
  • Participation in monthly Saturday community events (approximately 4 hours each)

Summer Programming (June–July)

Monday–Friday 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM

Compensation & Benefits

Living Allowance

  • $4,317
  • Paid bi-weekly by direct deposit over the member service year

Education Award

Upon successful completion of 300 service hours, members become eligible to receive a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $1,565.08, which may be used toward qualified student loans or future educational expenses.
