Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and Repair: Troubleshoot complex mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems on heavy-duty diesel trucks using advanced diagnostic tools, schematics, and technical manuals (e.g., Cummins Insite, Detroit Diesel Diagnostic Link).
- Preventive Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance including oil changes, filter replacements, brake adjustments, tire inspections, and chassis lubrication to ensure reliability and regulatory compliance.
- Component Repairs: Repair or replace critical components such as diesel engines, transmissions, differentials, turbochargers, and braking systems.
- Welding and Fabrication: Perform minor welding, cutting, or fabrication work to repair or modify frames and components as needed.
- Documentation: Complete accurate service reports, document parts usage, and record maintenance activities for warranty, billing, DOT compliance, and inventory tracking.
- Customer Interaction: Communicate with drivers and fleet managers regarding repairs, recommendations, and service outcomes.
- Safety Compliance: Follow OSHA, DOT, manufacturer, and company safety guidelines while maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
- Tool & Equipment Management: Maintain shop tools, diagnostic equipment, and service areas to ensure operational readiness.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; technical diploma or certification in diesel or heavy-duty truck repair preferred.
- Experience:
- 2–5 years of hands-on heavy-duty diesel truck experience is required
- Experience with brands such as Freightliner, Kenworth, Peterbilt, Volvo, Mack, or similar
- Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, electrical systems, hydraulics, and ECM diagnostics
- Proficiency with diagnostic software and hand/power tools
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics
- Soft Skills:
- Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail
- Effective communication and customer service skills
- Certifications (Preferred):
- Manufacturer training (Cummins, Detroit Diesel, Paccar) or ASE Heavy-Duty certifications (T2–T8)
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift 50–75 lbs., work under trucks, and perform duties in various shop conditions
- License:
- Valid driver’s license required
- CDL strongly preferred
