What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safety Coordinator position at I K I MANUFACTURING?
Summary: The Safety Coordinator works closely with cross-functional leaders and front-line supervisors to ensure appropriate job-specific and safety training is completed for all employees on all shifts. This position is responsible for tactical safety on all shifts and is expected to be a leader by influence by actively engaging with new and existing employees, supervisors, and managers to ensure training needs are met.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Actively responds to incidents during shifts, investigates all incidents on off-shifts and reports findings to plant leadership, follows up with the employee/managers of any incident or near miss
• Responsible for providing departments with weekly reports of training compliance and escalating non-compliance to the manager of the departments
• Schedule, prepare, and administer new hire safety training for all new hires
• Assist HR with administration of Safety Shoe Reimbursement and Prescription Safety Glasses program
• Acting point of contact for all safety and food vending machines on site
• Administer and track employee two-way radio program
• Provide forklift training to new and existing employees as necessary
• Assist with SOP and policy creation and review for any safety related processes
• Periodically review the training matrix and Litmos content for accuracy and work effectively with Document Control to ensure revisions match training requirements
• Create and upload content to Litmos that matches the job requirements, this will be done in conjunction with the department managers
• Manage the safety reporting and ideas program to actively engage employees in workplace safety
• Coordinate quarterly, semi-annual and annual Fire Suppression Inspections
• Perform monthly fire extinguisher inspections throughout the facility, coordinate annual inspection with 3rd party
• Create and assign monthly safety refresher training in LMS system
• Coordinate and perform monthly Safety Committee Meetings for all shifts
• Performs JHA/JSA’s on assigned roles in the facility
• Perform monthly Emergency Light Inspections throughout the facility
• Plan and facilitate annual Severe Weather and Fire Drills
• Coordinate annual hearing and respirator fit testing
• Coordinate and/or administer Hazmat training
• Coordinate and/or administer Forklift Refresher training
• Coordinate and/or administer RCRA training
• Coordinate and/or administer Supervisor Incident Response training
• Annual review of effectiveness of temporary employee training
• Annual review of Emergency Response Plan
• Assist with periodic local fire department inspections
• Any other duties aw assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to actively listen and engage in conversations to understand needs
• Presentation skills: the ability to provide training materials to small and large groups
• Computer skills: the ability to provide reports, create and upload training material utilizing various programs, including, but not limited to, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, LMS
• Ability to promote and influence employees to perform work safely and to the IKI Core
• Cross-functional communication and the ability to effectively hold team members accountable to training compliance
• Attitude of continuous learning and willingness to obtain certifications or additional training related to industry
Education/Experience:
• Prior experience in a safety role in a manufacturing environment preferred
• Previous experience training employees and creating training content
• HS Diploma required, B.S. in Safety or related field preferred
• Forklift train the trainer, Hazmat Training, other OSHA or industry related training
• Experience with PSM or ability to learn/certify in PSM
This is a full time exempt position with hours between 40-50 per week depending on business need. Must be available to adjust hours to provide training to multiple shifts. This employee will split time between office and prodcution environment and will move between plant buildings in varying weather and surfaces. All PPE rules must be followed in production areas. Must have valid drivers license due to potential need to transport employee for medical care or testing.
