Position Overview
The Purchasing and Logistics Professional plays a pivotal role in optimizing procurement and material management processes, ensuring the timely acquisition of equipment and supplies, cost-efficient purchasing practices, and seamless coordination of logistics. This role blends strategic supply chain leadership with hands-on purchasing and vendor management, leveraging industry knowledge, supplier relationships, and ERP/MRP expertise to drive operational and financial efficiency.
We’re seeking someone with proven experience in purchasing and logistics who thrives in a fast-paced, project-driven environment. The level and title for this role will be determined based on the candidate’s experience and potential impact.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
- Identify, assess, and select suppliers, considering price, quality, reliability, and delivery capabilities.
- Maintain and expand vendor relationships, leveraging existing networks in the AV, cabling, and security industries.
- Lead negotiations on pricing, contracts, payment terms, and delivery schedules to achieve cost reductions and maximize value.
- Analyze purchasing history and market trends to inform rebate strategies and category management decisions.
- Monitor supplier performance, address issues proactively, and document outcomes for continuous improvement.
- Oversee creation and management of purchase orders, ensuring accuracy, budget compliance, and timely delivery.
- Collaborate with project managers to maintain up-to-date Bills of Materials (BOM) and prevent project delays.
- Coordinate material shipments, deliveries, and logistics to ensure project schedules are met.
- Conduct cost analyses and identify opportunities for savings without compromising quality or schedule.
- Manage urgent or emergency procurement needs efficiently.
- Maintain accurate records of purchases, contracts, and supplier information to facilitate transparency and informed decision-making.
- Utilize procurement software to streamline processes, track orders, manage supplier relationships, and enable data-driven decisions.
- Support implementation and optimization of ERP/MRP systems or purchasing software as needed.
- Generate comprehensive procurement reports and provide regular updates to management.
- Foster collaboration with operations, accounting, warehouse, and estimating teams to ensure seamless purchasing and logistics execution.
- Train and mentor team members on purchasing software and process improvements.
- Partner with leadership to align procurement and logistics strategies with organizational goals, including inventory management, project planning, and cost optimization.
- Proven experience in Supply Chain, Purchasing, Procurement, or Logistics Management within multi-distribution, construction, or manufacturing industries with 8-10 years of experience.
- Strong expertise in vendor negotiation, cost reduction, supplier management, and category management.
- Knowledge of AV, cabling, and security system equipment is highly preferred.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems and procurement software implementation.
- Excellent leadership, communication, project management, and analytical skills.
- Title and level will be determined based on experience.
