Join our dynamic team as a Weatherization Energy Efficiency Auditor, where you'll play a vital role in enhancing home energy efficiency within the communities who need us the most. The Energy Auditor / Weatherization Specialist is responsible for conducting residential energy audits, developing weatherization work scopes, monitoring subcontractor performance, and ensuring compliance with U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and funding agency guidelines. This position supports energy efficiency improvements for eligible households by performing diagnostic testing, maintaining accurate documentation, and assisting with quality control inspections. The role requires technical knowledge of residential construction, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with clients, contractors, and agency staff.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Energy Auditing & Assessment
- Schedule and conduct initial energy audits of single-family and multi-family homes.
- Prepare preliminary determinations of recommended energy efficiency measures.
- Conduct final home energy audit inspections to ensure compliance with DOE guidelines.
- Perform diagnostic testing including:
- Blower door tests
- Duct blaster tests
- Combustion analysis tests
2. Project Estimation & Cost Review
· Assist in preparing work estimates for weatherization projects.
· Review estimates with supervisor prior to approval.
· Assist in reviewing subcontractor cost estimates for labor and materials.
3. Contractor Oversight & Quality Assurance
· Monitor subcontractor workmanship.
· Verify that all approved energy measures are completed.
· Ensure invoiced materials are installed or properly credited.
· Assist in investigating and resolving complaints between clients and subcontractors.
4. Compliance & Documentation
· Complete and maintain detailed documentation required by funding agencies.
· Ensure all client files meet program compliance standards.
· Ensure compliance with U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) regulations and applicable state policies.
· Enter audit data and project documentation into agency-approved data management systems
5. Training & Certification Requirements
· Must successfully complete required Weatherization and safety training courses, including but not limited to:
o Renovate Right
o Lead Safe Work Practices
o Asbestos Awareness
o OSHA 30-Hour Certification
o Mold Awareness
o CPR/First Aid
o HVAC Fundamentals
o Weatherization Basics/Fundamentals
o Auditor Training (classroom and field)
o Mobile Home & Manufactured Housing Training
o Infrared Camera Basics
o Quality Control Inspector (QCI)
o NEAT/MHEA Training (as determined and directed by supervisor)
Health & Safety Protocol
· Conduct health and safety assessments in accordance with WAP guidelines
· Identify and document health and safety hazards prior to work commencement
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have a high school education or GED. Some experience in housing construction, housing rehabilitation and/or building maintenance. Must possess the following competences: adequate mathematical and computation skills, knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook, interpersonal and people skills and be detail oriented. Must have a valid NC Driver’s license and reliable transportation, have current NC auto liability insurance and be able to attend training and receive certifications as needed, including but not limited to, Quality Control Inspector.
BPI Building Analyst Technician, BPI Energy Auditor, BPI Building Analyst Professional, LEEDS and/or HERS certification or equivalent combination of experience and training which provides required knowledge, skills, and abilities plus above minimum requirements.
