Position: Metallurgical Engineer
i-80 Gold Corp is seeking a candidate to fill the position of Metallurgical Engineer focusing on providing critical technical support to the gold processing functions of the company. Key areas of responsibility will be monitoring plant performance, conducting laboratory testing, and identifying opportunities to maximize gold recovery. Interpersonal relationship building will be essential as the role will be centered around working closely with the operations and maintenance teams to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective production. This role would be a good fit for someone who likes to get hands-on experience and make operational improvements but would also like to grow in development in-step with the Company.
Location: Corporate Office, Reno, NV
Responsibilities:
o Management and oversight of the Granite Creek ore agreements including liaison with third parties and internal stakeholders and reporting
o Granite Creek toll-milling and ore purchase agreements
o Verification and exchange of assay information
o Flagging discrepancies and tracking down their sources
o Metallurgical accounting of the Company’s operating properties using industry-accepted best practices
o Development of site metallurgical balances
o Management of gold inventory on the Company’s sites
o Liaising with third-party refiners
o Create metallurgical reports to communicate company performance
o Monitoring daily plant performance including heap leaching, carbon ADR and water treatment plants
o Working with site personnel to identify and rectify shortcomings
o Production forecasting
o Ore control support
o Working with site geologists and engineers to ensure optimum classification and routing of mined ore
o Regular reviews of assay lab performance for data quality and accuracy
o Develop metallurgical testing programs and/or new procedures and methods
o To improve gold production
o To improve cost effectiveness (reagent consumption, efficiency)
o To improve environmental and safety performance
o Executing site improvement and troubleshooting projects
o Working with site and project personnel to support various site improvement initiatives
Other Support Areas, as assigned:
o Assist with the development of the Company’s long-term strategic objectives such as:
o Feasibility Study preparation (technical writing, peer reviews)
o Metallurgical test work program development, analysis and reporting
o Technical support of the Lone Tree Autoclave Project
Qualifications
o A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical, Mineral Processing, or Chemical Engineering or related field
o Three to five years of work experience in operations metallurgy with preference for gold and precious metals
o Soft skills include:
o A mindset of safety for self and others
o Positive and pro-active approach to technical challenges
o The ability to communicate effectively and work well with others of various levels of experience, educational background and expertise
o Attention to detail and a natural curiosity for exploring possibilities and to challenge current norms
o Location: Based in the Reno office with frequent visits to the sites
