Location: Lacey, WA 100% nationwide travel

Work arrangement: 100% travel, four weeks on, followed by one paid week off

Compensation: $50 - $70 per hour, depending on experience, plus overtime and per diem

I-5 Design Build is a national design-build firm with more than 40 years of experience creating casino, hospitality, entertainment, food and beverage, and high-end commercial environments. Our teams design, fabricate, build, and install distinctive spaces throughout the country.

The Traveling Site Carpenter serves as the superintendent's versatile on-site assistant. Although "Carpenter" is the general title, this is not a production framing position. You will handle the practical work needed to keep fast-moving commercial projects safe, organized, and progressing, from operating standard construction tools and installing materials to unloading deliveries, relocating temporary walls, and supporting site logistics.

The strongest candidates have developed solid skills in at least one commercial trade and are comfortable applying that experience to a wide variety of field tasks. I-5 can teach the specialized aspects of its work, but this is not an entry-level laborer position. This role follows a typical rotation of four weeks at the project followed by one paid week off. I-5 provides a company vehicle, pays approved travel home during rotations, and provides meals and incidental per diem based on applicable GSA rates.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the superintendent with daily field operations and changing project needs
• Complete general commercial carpentry, installation, and jobsite-support tasks
• Install materials such as FRP and assist with temporary walls and site protection
• Unload, move, stage, and protect tools, equipment, and construction materials
• Operate standard hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment safely
• Assist with jobsite setup, cleanup, organization, and hazard prevention
• Coordinate work with superintendents, subcontractors, vendors, and other trades
• Follow plans, field instructions, safety requirements, and quality standards
• Help resolve practical field issues and maintain progress on fast-track projects
• Represent I-5 professionally in active commercial and occupied environments

Required Qualifications

• Previous hands-on commercial construction trade experience 
• Skilled background in an area such as commercial framing, drywall, finish carpentry, electrical work, or a comparable trade
• Ability to use common hand and power tools safely and effectively
• General understanding of commercial jobsites, construction sequencing, and safety
• Willingness and ability to travel nationwide on a four-weeks-on, one-week-off rotation
• Valid driver's license and a driving record that permits operation of company vehicles
• Willingness to complete a background check in accordance with applicable law
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and perform physical construction tasks throughout the shift, with or without reasonable accommodation. 
• Reliability, adaptability, teamwork, and attention to detail
• Willingness to work variable hours, including nights, weekends, or overtime when required by the project

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with commercial hospitality, gaming, restaurant, entertainment, or retail projects
• Experience operating forklifts, lifts, or other common construction equipment
• Ability to read basic plans, drawings, measurements, and installation details
• Interest in developing into a foreman or another field-leadership position

Pay And Benefits

• Full-time, W-2 Employment
• Pay: $50 - $70 per hour, depending on experience
• Overtime pay in accordance with applicable law
• Typical rotation is four weeks assigned to a project followed by one week off, paid at 40 hours of the employee's regular straight-time rate. Rotation leave is separate from accrued PTO.
