School Bus Driver (2026-2027 School Year)
The Interstate 35 Community School district is seeking dedicated candidates who have a passion for children to our team for the 2026-2027 school year. Eligible candidates will work with an awesome team and interact with and supoort children each day!
Core Responsibilites:
- Safe Transportation: Operate a school bus to transport school-aged children and authorized personnel safely and efficiently over specified routes to and from school and activitites.
- Vehicle Inspections: Conduct thorough pre-trip inspections to ensure mechanical safety.
- Safety and Compliance: Strictly observe all traffic regulations, safety policies, and school bus laws.
- Student Management: Enforce student discipline rules fairly on the bus to maintain a safe environment.
Job Requirements & Qualifications:
- Licensing: Posses Chauffeur's Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements; self certify during every driver's license renewal.
- Authorizations: Pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) yearly school bus driver authorization card from the Department of Education.
- Driving Record: Maintain an acceptable driving record and a thorough knowledge of traffic laws and school bus regulations.
- Health & Physical Fitness: Pass a DOT physical examination every two years (per State of Iowa law) and pass a pre-employment drug test. Must be physically capable of operating a school bus, handling safety equipment and assisting passengers during an evacuation.
- Background Screenings: Successfully clear a criminal and child abuse background check.
Mandatory Training Requirements
- New Drivers: Complete the onlineNew Driver Class and a 3-hour face-to-face class within 6 months of obtaining a Class B CDL.
- Continuing Education: Complete an approved 3-hour training class every year following the initial training.
- Must clear criminal and child abuse background check.
