Position Description:
The position of Shop Technician is a hybrid management-labor position whose main purpose is to ensure that company vehicles and equipment are maintained and kept from breaking down in the ordinary course of business.
Necessary Skills:
- Ability to diagnose minor to severe mechanical problems.
- Ability to coordinate with a supervisor about complicated mechanical problems.
- Ability to efficiently perform mechanical work on diesel and gas vehicles as well as heavy equipment such as a manlift or telehandler.
- Organizational skills necessary to keep repair records for a small fleet of vehicles and equipment.
Position Training:
- Shop technician will be trained by supervisor identify what maintenance is ordinary (and thus should be solved without consultation) and what maintenance is extra-ordinary (and thus maintenance that should be approved by him first.)
- Shop Technician will be trained by supervisor on proper manner on which records should be kept and in what format it should be kept.
Position Duties:
Managerial
- Shop Technician is to keep a shopping list of materials, parts, and tools needed and updated for the supervisor.
- Shop Technician is to regularly review and evaluate the shop and any equipment / vehicles therein for needed maintenance. This to include at least the following: fluid changes, brakes, cleaning, etc.
- Shop Technician is to attend a weekly meeting with supervisor wherein the Shop Technician will relate all maintenance performed, as well as any problems which need the employer’s attention. Discussion of tools, materials needed in the shop should also occur at this time.
- Shop Technician will be responsible for buying necessary parts according to supervisor’s preferences.
- Shop technician will be responsible for maintaining detailed records of maintenance performed on all company vehicles and equipment
- Shop tech should develop the ability to recommend changes to systems and procedures
Labor
- All ordinary Maintenance is to be diagnosed and performed without supervisor. Examples of ordinary Maintenance includes things such as brake pad changes, fluid changes, etc.
- All extra-ordinary maintenance is to be diagnosed by Shop technician and presented to supervisor for approval. Diagnosis should include at least one (1) possible solution.
- Shop Technician shall be responsible for performing all actual repairs.
Position powers
- Shop Technician shall be given a company credit card and have the ability to spend purchase anything needed for ordinary maintenance without consultation from supervisor.
- Shop Technician will be given all tools needed by HTF, and the Shop Technician will not be held liable to replace any tools that are broken in the ordinary course of work.
- Shop Technician is welcome to bring and use personal tools as desired.
Pay: $21.00 - $28.00 per hour
