We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing accessible, inclusive, and culturally responsive mental health care-especially for BIPOC, LGBTQIA , and other underserved communities in Los Angeles County. Founded by Dr. Sade Thompson, a Doctor of Psychology and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Hygieia offers a range of services to promote wellness, reduce stigma, and close equity gaps in behavioral health.
Our programs include sliding scale and pro bono therapy, peer-led support groups, trauma-informed workshops, and training/supervision for future therapists. We offer both in-person and virtual services to ensure flexibility and accessibility, and we accept Medi-Cal and other insurance plans to reduce financial barriers to care.
Dr. Thompson also leads therapeutic groups, supervises interns and trainees, and ensures our services meet the evolving needs of the communities we serve. Our team is passionate about fostering long-term mental wellness and reshaping how care is delivered.

What You’ll Do
- Assist therapists with locating resources for clients in need.
- Support community outreach efforts and event coordination.
- Help build partnerships with local businesses, schools, and health orgs.
- Coordinate or source in-kind donations (snacks, event supplies, self-care items).
- Post on our Instagram page and support general social media outreach (experience a plus!).
- Represent Hygieia in the community with professionalism, compassion, and purpose.
- Experience with grant research and writing is a plus!
- Real-world nonprofit and behavioral health experience.
- Exposure to mental health programs and leadership.
- Community service hours or standout resume/grad school experience.
- A chance to be part of reshaping mental wellness access in Los Angeles County.
- A letter of recommendation from the president, who is a doctor of psychology and LMFT.
