Key Duties and Responsibilities

Activity Directors are responsible for creating engaging and inclusive programs. Typical duties include:

  • Assessing needs: Determine the physical, cognitive, and social interests of participants to develop relevant activity programs

     

  • Program planning and coordination: Plan, implement, and oversee diverse activities such as arts and crafts, music, dance, games, educational events, outings, and parties 
    .
  • Scheduling and calendars: Maintain and communicate a monthly or weekly calendar of events, ensuring participants and staff are well-informed 
    .
  • Staff and volunteer management: Recruit, train, and supervise assistants, volunteers, and other staff involved in activity programs 
    .
  • Budgeting and resource management: Purchase, manage, and maintain supplies and equipment required for activities while adhering to budget
    .
  • Safety and compliance: Ensure all activities comply with health, safety, and regulatory requirements, including first aid and CPR preparations 
  •  
  • Evaluation and reporting: Monitor effectiveness, document participant progress, and adjust programs to maximize engagement and benefits 
    .
  • Community engagement: Liaise with families, residents, vendors, and community partners to enhance program offerings and encourage participation 

    Skills and Qualifications

    Successful Activity Directors demonstrate a combination of leadership, creativity, and interpersonal skills:

  • Strong communication and public speaking skills to interact with diverse participants and staff 
  • Organizational and planning capabilities to coordinate multiple events and activities 
  • Leadership and team management skills for overseeing staff and volunteers 
  • Creative thinking to develop engaging and inclusive programs 
  • Problem-solving and adaptability to handle changes or unexpected challenges during activities 
  • Competence in budgeting, record-keeping, and use of software tools
  • Familiarity with health and safety rules, first aid, and CPR certification.

 

Salary : $25 - $28
