ABOUT THE POSITION
Hyde Park City is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Building Permit Technician to join our team. This position plays a key role in supporting the public, processing building permits, coordinating inspections, and ensuring accurate and timely permit records. This is a non-benefited position.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
· Receive, review, and process building permit applications.
· Verify information such as contractor licensing, zoning, and project details.
· Process permit fees; issue receipts and maintain accurate records.
· Schedule inspections and coordinate with outside agencies.
· Serve as a communication point between customers, inspectors, and City departments.
· Maintain organized permit files and data within the permitting system.
· Assist the public, builders, and developers with forms, questions, and permit requirements.
· Ensure compliance with GRAMA and record retention requirements.
· Monitor permit statuses (active, completed, expired, or canceled).
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience:
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Two (2) years of customer service experience.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
· Ability to read plans and understand construction terminology (or be willing to learn)
· Strong organizational and communication skills.
· Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office.
· Ability to remain calm and helpful in busy or stressful situations.
LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS:
· Valid Utah Driver’s License.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
· Office environment with moderate noise.
· Frequent sitting, walking, standing, talking, and computer use.
· Occasional bending, kneeling, or lifting up to 25 lbs.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
· Six-month probationary period.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 25 per week
