Position Summary
The Electrical Systems Engineer will lead and support development of high-voltage battery and distribution systems, power distribution architectures, and vehicle-level electrical integration. This role spans system design, requirements development, embedded controls coordination, safety analysis, and hands-on prototype validation. You will collaborate closely with mechanical, controls, software, and manufacturing teams to deliver robust systems through the full development cycle—from concept to system launch.
Key Responsibilities / Areas of Impact
Electrical & System Design:
- Design and document electrical architectures, schematics, wiring diagrams, and component selections for lithium-ion (Li-ion) and other battery chemistries, high-voltage (HV) distribution, and vehicle integration.
- Develop and maintain system engineering artifacts, including requirements, interface definitions, DFMEAs/PFMEAs, and DVP&R/test plans.
- Apply strong engineering knowledge of high-voltage components, including contactors, switches, HVIL, insulation/isolation monitoring, safety interlocks, bus bars, sensors, battery cells/packs, and protection devices.
- Support hardware development and design reviews, including PCB schematic reviews (Altium preferred; OrCAD or equivalent acceptable).
Controls & Software Integration:
- Collaborate with controls and software teams to define system behavior, state machines, protection logic, and calibration strategies.
- Support embedded controls development using model-based design tools (MATLAB / Simulink / Stateflow) and assist with C-based integration reviews.
- Utilize CAN tools (e.g., Vector CANalyzer, CANape) to evaluate system performance, validate functionality, and troubleshoot issues.
Testing, Validation & Debug:
- Develop and execute validation test procedures for both component- and system-level verification.
- Perform hands-on prototype testing, including fault evaluation, root-cause analysis, and troubleshooting.
- Follow lab and vehicle test procedures to assess system performance, safety interactions, and functional behavior.
- Utilize tools such as SPICE/PSpice, LabVIEW, CAN tools, and battery test equipment for analysis and validation.
Program & Cross-Functional Coordination:
- Lead and support system engineering activities across the development lifecycle, including requirements management, integration, and validation.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers to ensure successful design, build, and validation outcomes.
- Participate in technical reviews to identify risks, integration challenges, and quality concerns.
- Assist in project planning by tracking timing, risks, status, and technical deliverables.
Documentation & Build Support:
