This role is responsible for day-to-day accounting activities, budgeting, internal controls, and financial analysis, while also overseeing insurance, risk management, payroll, and office accounting staff. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, hands-on accounting professional with strong leadership skills and experience supporting operational and strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all accounting operations, including general ledger, journal entries, bank reconciliations, accounts payable, payroll, and financial close.
- Oversee payroll processing, payroll reporting, and compliance with federal and state payroll regulations.
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reports.
- Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process; monitor departmental budgets and analyze variances.
- Maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with accounting policies and internal controls.
- Develop, document, and improve accounting, payroll, and administrative procedures.
- Coordinate with external auditors and assist with annual audits.
- Oversee business insurance programs, benefits administration, and workers’ compensation claims.
- Support HR-related functions, including employee onboarding, benefits administration, personnel records, and compliance support.
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff and support positive employee relations.
- Support daily office operations and administrative functions as needed.
- Develop and maintain the selection, training, compensation, motivation, termination and review of all department personnel.
- Develop and maintain a program for sound employee relations with all accounting employees.
- Provide guidance and direction to accounting employees to assist them in their professional development.
- Administer the activities of the general accounting, credit, collections and business planning departments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)
- Prior experience in accounting, bookkeeping, and business operations
- Public accounting and insurance/risk management experience preferred
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Proficiency with Sage accounting system, Microsoft Applications, and computer applications
