What are the responsibilities and job description for the Platform Engineer position at Huxley?
Platform Engineer | Series A | AI Startup | NYC | $250k | Tier 1 VC Investors
Role: Platform Engineer
Location: Midtown, NYC
Salary: $200,000 - $250,000 DOE Benefits
A fast‑growing Series A AI startup in New York City is building an autonomous team of AI agents that can take on real accounting workflows. The company has recently achieved strong product market fit, is experiencing demand far beyond current capacity, and has raised $34M to scale rapidly.
About the Team
The Platform Engineering team develops and operates the core infrastructure that powers both cutting‑edge AI research and the customer‑facing product. The team is small, highly technical, and focused on building largescale, distributed systems from first principles. Their philosophy emphasizes clarity clean abstractions, simple mental models, and interfaces that enable product and research teams to move quickly.
The work spans everything an AI-enabled accounting system needs modeling financial concepts and workflows, building robust foundational services, designing scalable data pipelines, and ensuring deep, reliable observability.
About the Role
Platform Engineers at this startup take full ownership of their projects, from initial architecture to final rollout. You’ll act as the Responsible Party (RP) for the systems you build, deciding how they should be designed, how success should be measured, and when they’re ready for production.
Engineers are trusted to manage their own execution, define their own project plans, and collaborate closely within small, cross‑functional pods. The systems you build will support every part of the organization: AI/ML teams, product teams, and internal automation agents. You’ll be responsible for keeping them fast, reliable, and easy to understand.
What You’ll Work On
Build and scale the core platform
- Design services for reliability, scalability, cost efficiency, and long‑term growth
- Establish deployment and runtime patterns (containers, orchestration, IaC, secrets, CI/CD)
- Build first‑class observability across metrics, logs, and traces
- Own your systems in production and continuously improve them
Design and operate data systems that power AI
- Build pipelines to ingest, transform, and deliver high‑quality financial data
- Integrate validation, lineage, and drift detection directly into workflows
- Expose clean, well‑modeled datasets with strong contracts for agents and product surfaces
- Reduce complexity by creating elegant, composable systems
Model the operational world the AI needs to understand
- Capture accounting entities, relationships, and rules in well‑structured schemas
- Design abstractions that enable reasoning, automation, and safe agent behavior
- Build systems that encode domain constraints and enforce what agents can or cannot do
Operate with ownership and clarity
- Scope, architect, implement, and deliver projects end‑to‑end as an RP
- Document decisions so others can build on your work
- Conduct your own postmortems and drive continuous improvement
- Collaborate across Platform, ML, and Product to align on priorities and unblock execution quickly
What Success Looks Like
- You deliver high‑quality systems from concept to production
- Your services are simple, scalable, observable, and elegant
- Other teams move faster because of the abstractions you create
- You understand not only how patterns work but why they exist
- You communicate clearly, work with conviction, and elevate the team around you
