Job Summary: The Offshore Marine Technician – Fire and Gas is responsible for installing, inspecting, testing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing fire detection, gas detection, alarm, suppression-interface, and related life safety systems on offshore facilities and marine vessels. The technician ensures systems operate reliably and comply with applicable US Coast Guard (USCG), American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), NFPA, manufacturer, customer, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

•    Install, inspect, calibrate, function-test, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair fixed fire and gas detection systems, including smoke, heat, flame, combustible gas, toxic gas, and oxygen detectors.

•    Verify alarm, shutdown, notification, ventilation, suppression-release, and other cause-and-effect functions in accordance with approved procedures and site requirements.

•    Read and interpret wiring diagrams, loop drawings, P&IDs, cause-and-effect matrices, equipment manuals, and the scope of work for each assignment.

•    Use calibrated test equipment and manufacturer software to diagnose faults, adjust devices, confirm signal integrity, and document test results.

•    Complete service reports, inspection records, calibration certificates, deficiency documentation, and required database uploads accurately and on time.

•    Identify system deficiencies, communicate repair recommendations, and coordinate work with customers, operations personnel, and other trades while maintaining excellent customer relations.

•    Follow lockout/tagout, permit-to-work, gas-testing, electrical safety, and offshore safety requirements at all times.

What we are looking for:

•    5 years of offshore experience servicing fire detection, gas detection, alarm, or related safety systems.

•    Demonstrated experience with fixed-point combustible and toxic gas detectors, flame detectors, fire alarm control panels, notification appliances, and system interfaces.

•    Working knowledge of 4–20 mA circuits, relays, addressable loops, industrial communications, low-voltage wiring, and basic control logic.

•    Valid driver's license from state of residence, valid proof of vehicle insurance, reliable transportation, and a clean driving record.

•    OPITO-approved THUET with CA-EBS and current SafeGulf certification.

•    Current, or able to obtain, applicable Louisiana State Fire Marshal endorsements in Fire Alarm and Fixed Fire Suppression.

•    Current TWIC card and valid passport, or ability to obtain each.

•    Manufacturer certifications for fire and gas equipment are preferred.

•    Must be willing and able to travel and work offshore for extended periods, including nights, weekends, and emergency callouts as required.

Other Qualifications:

•    Strong electrical, electronic, instrumentation, and mechanical troubleshooting skills.

•    Knowledge of fire and gas system principles, applicable codes, hazardous-area practices, and basic offshore safety standards, with the ability to learn customer-specific requirements.

•    Ability to use multimeters, loop calibrators, gas calibration equipment, detector test tools, and other diagnostic instruments safely and accurately.

•    Ability to interpret technical drawings, follow written procedures, and produce clear, complete service documentation.

•    Effective customer service, verbal communication, and written communication skills.

•    Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently or as part of a team while exercising sound judgment.

•    Strong problem-solving, time-management, work ethic, and integrity.

•    Ability to perform work in unusual or difficult positions, including on ladders, scaffolds, and lift equipment.

•    Proficient with Word, Excel, Outlook, and tablet- or phone-based inspection and service applications.

Physical Requirements:

•    Regularly stand, walk, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and use hands to handle tools, wiring, detectors, and test equipment.

•    Lift and carry up to 50 pounds and safely use hand tools, power tools, ladders, fall-protection equipment, and specialty test equipment.

•    Work indoors and outdoors in offshore, marine, industrial, and commercial environments where noise, dust, vibration, heat, low light, weather, and uneven surfaces may be present.

•    Work at heights and in confined spaces while wearing required personal protective equipment and respiratory protection when applicable.

•    Distinguish alarms, indicator states, labels, wiring, and instrument readings and communicate effectively in active work environments.
