Job Summary :
Provides safe, quality patient care for all patients in the PET/CT and Nuclear Medicine departments located within the Radiology department. Will aid the PET/CT and Nuclear Medicine technologists with all necessary tasks required to schedule and perform exams. This role will also monitor the patient during PET/CT and Nuclear Medicine cardiac stress exams under the supervision of the Cardiology providers.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Aids the PET/CT and Nuclear Medicine technologists in performing exams. Assists patients in understanding the procedure, answering their questions, and ensuring they are comfortable before the scan. May include handling and injecting medications or radioactive isotopes.
- Monitor the patient during PET/CT cardiac stress exams. Includes attaching the patient to the EKG system, operating, and monitoring it during the cardiac stress test exams.
- Will supervise the stress test exams under the guidance of the Cardiology providers. If no prior experience supervising stress test exams, the Cardiology providers will provide the training. Completion of an EKG training course upon hire will be required if one has not already been completed.
- Will aid the technologist in starting I.V. s.
- Provides clerical support, including scheduling PET/CT and Nuclear Medicine exams, answering phone calls, handling paperwork, and any other related tasks.
- Complete on-the-job radiation safety training and testing. This will include working with and proper handling of radioactive material per Kansas Department of Health and Environmental guidelines.
- Communicates effectively with patients/families and providers.
- Transports patients to and from the department as needed.
- Interacts with co-workers and providers in a manner that promotes positive working relationships.
- Performs other duties that may be assigned from time to time. This may include additional responsibilities within the Radiology department.

Qualifications:
Knowledge and Skills:
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse
- Experience in starting IV's
- Prefer EKG and Cardiology experience
Education:
- Must be a licensed registered nurse (RN( in the state of Kansas
- BLS and ACLS are required
Work Environment:
- Exposure to communicable diseases and toxic substances
- Exposure to radiation from PET isotopes and X-ray producing devices
Physical Requirements:
- Occasionally lifts or carries items weighing up to 50 pounds
- Requires full range of body motion
- Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time
- Vision and hearing to normal range
Other skills:
- Ability to care for patients undergoing PET/CT or Nuclear Medicine exams and to provide technical and nursing assistance during such exams.
- Must demonstrate an understanding of clinical risk.
- Ability to direct and provide patient care in emergencies.
- Knowledge of EMR system.
- Must demonstrate consistent professional conduct and meticulous attention to detail.
- Must possess excellent verbal and written communication as well as excellent interpersonal skills with patients, staff, and other health care professionals.
- Works to achieve and maintain regulatory guidelines for PET/CT and Nuclear Medicine.
