Position Summary
The Accounting Specialist manages the full invoice preparation cycle, ensuring invoices are accurate, compliant with client requirements, and submitted on time. In addition, this role will have responsibility for AP invoice review, approval and timely payment of each invoice. The role requires strong analytical skills, close attention to detail, and effective communication with attorneys, clients, and administrative staff. The position may expand beyond billing responsibilities with the rollout of new accounting software this fall.
Key Responsibilities
· Edit prebills based on requests from billing attorneys.
· Generate a high volume of complex client invoices.
· Ensure invoices comply with billing guidelines and that all required supporting documentation is compiled before submission.
· Respond to billing inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
· Review and approve all AP invoices and submitted expense reimbursement requests.
· Prepare checks at least twice a month for open AP invoices.
· Assist with special projects and ad hoc reporting as needed.
· Support the Accounting Manager with additional accounting tasks as needed.
Qualifications
Skills & Competencies
· Experience with billing in a law firm environment.
· Preferred: Experience with legal billing software, such as ProLaw or a similar platform.
· Understanding of legal billing processes across multiple practice areas.
· Ability to identify billing issues proactively and recommend practical solutions.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a professional demeanor.
· Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing effectively as part of a team.
· Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships at all levels of the firm.
Education & Prior Experience
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent experience.
· At least 2 years of experience in legal billing or in a law firm accounting department preferred.
Technology
· Experience with ProLaw or other legal billing software, such as Orion or Centerbase, preferred.
· Proficiency in Excel is required.

The salary range for this position is $68,000 to $73,000 annually, depending on experience. This is a full-time, non-exempt position working 40 hours per week. The role is based in our Boulder office and reports directly to the Accounting Manager.
