POSITION SUMMARY
The Huston-Tillotson University Department of Education invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor of Education. The position supports both the academic degree program and the Educator Preparation Program (EPP) in alignment with **Texas Education Agency standards and 19 TAC requirements. The successful candidate will prepare future educators through teaching, advising, clinical supervision, and program support, with alignment to TEKS, T-TESS, and TExES standards.
TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teach undergraduate and/or graduate education courses (pedagogy, classroom management, assessment, and reading/ESL preferred)
- Deliver instruction in face-to-face, hybrid, and online formats (Canvas LMS)
- Develop and maintain QM-aligned, ADA-compliant courses and syllabi aligned to TEKS and T-TESS
- Advise and mentor students and EPP candidates; maintain a minimum of 10 office hours per week
- Analyze academic transcripts and develop, maintain, and update degree plans to ensure accurate advising and timely completion
- Support Educator Preparation Program (EPP) functions, including:
- Candidate admission, advising, and test approval
- Clinical teaching, internship, and field-based experience (FBE) coordination and support
- Certification readiness (e.g., TExES benchmarks)
- Maintain accurate candidate and course records, support TEA compliance, reporting, and accreditation activities
- Participate in scholarship, curriculum development, and service to the department, university, and PK–12 partners
- Earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Education or related field (ABD considered at Assistant rank)
- Familiarity with Texas TEKS and T-TESS Domains
- Preferred:
- Texas teacher certification (EC–12)
- Specialization in Reading and/or ESL

- Demonstrated knowledge of instructional best practices and diverse learners
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to the mission of a historically Black college/university (HBCU)
Familiarity with clinical teaching, internships, and alternative certification programs within a Texas Education Agency-approved EPP - Experience with TEA compliance, accreditation, and clinical supervision
- Online teaching experience and Quality Matters familiarity
- Record of scholarship, grant activity, or curriculum leadership

- This position reports to the Chair of the Department of Educator Preparation
