As a Secondary Machining Technician, you will be responsible for performing tasks involved in the cleaning and plugging of components and parts. This role ensures the quality, safety, and efficiency of the manufacturing process by meticulously cleaning and sealing components, readying them for the subsequent assembly or production stages.

Pay: $17 an hour

Shift: 1st Shift

Location: Maquoketa, Iowa

What You’ll be Doing:

  • Component Inspection: Inspect components and parts for cleanliness, defects, or containments. Identifies and reports any deviations from quality standards to supervisors.
  • Cleaning Operations: Follow established procedures to clean components using various cleaning methods, such as solvent cleaning, or other appropriate methods. Handle cleaning chemicals and equipment safely and in accordance with company protocols.
  • Plugging and Sealing: Perform precision plugging and sealing operations on components as required, ensuring proper sealing to prevent contamination or leakage. Use specialized tools and techniques to achieve precise results.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Ensure that cleaning and plugging equipment is properly maintained and cleaned after use. Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs to the maintenance departments.

What You’ll Need:

  • High School Diploma, GED (or equivalent).
  • Forklift truck operation certification (other material handling equipment as needed)
  • Understanding of material handling methods, efficient material storage techniques, and space utilization concepts.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team.
  • Ability to follow written procedures and specifications.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.

Physical Requirements:

Shop environment may have exposure to oil, fumes, moderate noise levels and metal particles. Safety shoes and safety glasses are required. Face masks, shields and earplugs when required.

  • Physical Endurance: Sufficient physical stamina to maintain productivity and focus during fast-paced assembly work, often under time constraints, without compromising accuracy or safety.
  • Lifting and Carrying: The ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, including components, tools, and finished products. Adherence to proper lifting techniques and safety procedures to avoid risk of injury.
  • Standing and Walking: The capacity to stand and walk for a minimum of eight (8) hours throughout the workday, as painting tasks often involve moving on the paint line, in booths, in the warehouse and to and from assembly lines.
  • Physical Flexibility: Flexibility to assume various positions, such as bending, kneeling, or crouching, when necessary for accessing and assembling components in tight spaces or awkward angles.
  • Dexterity, Hand-eye Coordination and Foot Controls: Good hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills to grasp small parts, use handheld scanners/tools, paint guns, and operate powered industrial equipment with foot controls repetitively.
  • Repetitive Motions: The capability to perform repetitive motions, such as grasping, twisting, and operating hand scanners, paint guns or machinery, as these actions are integral to the painting process.
  • Vision: Good vision, including the ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and work instructions. Visual sharpness, depth perception, and distinguishing color are all crucial for identifying defects, aligning components, and ensuring quality control.
